Just taught this was worthy of trawling for given the day thats in it. An amazing journey and LOVED every minute of it. On behalf of the 9,000 who witnessed an amazing night (and career) thanks
Good move by Dunne happy he has called it a day. Those 2 last fights took a lot out of him and he took the right decision and left. People will always remember him for that win in the o2 and what a night it was. I just hope now that Dunne is retired that RTE stick with the up and coming boxers and show them more. Peters could easly have 6-9 cards a year with some of the talent around. I cant see too many big nights in the o2 for a few years to come which is a shame as that is a great arena for boxing. Maybe just maybe a fight there from Macklin when he wins a World title a defence in Dublin would sell out but apart from that it will be few and far between them.
stephen haughian is scheduled to fight on the 27th of march in new york. anyone hear anything about this? did he leave breen? any of ye think he has much potential? from what i have seen he may win a british title at some stage. on another note just like to congratulate b dunne on a tremendous career. after the martinez fight i never dreamed he would win a world title but fair play to the lad he is one classy operator!
I said it at the time, and I dare any of you to argue with me!, the ducking left hook Dunne dropped Cordoba with for the first KD in the fight was the singular best punch he ever threw. Its 2 min 54 seconds of that vid. He just sets it up, spots it and throws it beautifully
well bam bam our argument about dunnes career is about as moot as it gets now! but fair play to dunne he gave it everything he had and made himself a bita money and made a lot of people happy and proud. lets hope he isnt lost to the professional sport in some capacity.
wathcing the boxset now. Jaysus I'm as soft as they come. I'm all nostalgic already. I remember the days when he was out in the states and I was only starting to go out with the missus. I had no internet at home and broadband wasn't as widespread as it is now. So they had the DSL cables in her house. I'd end up staying up half the night waiting on the slim chance of an undercard report on some site on the net. The missus was never impressed ( I guess she reckoned I should have been giving her one instead of waiting on boxing results of a friday/saturday night) but she ended up getting on the Bernard train too. As soon as he came back to Ireland I told her she had to go see him and once she did she was hooked. She actually cried a bit earlier when he retired. Good job too because it saved me having to do it!! From all those years ago in the Ams, through the nights when he was far away and I waited nervously for a computer to tell me what happend, the build up wins in the Stadium to the EBU title victory, the set back of Martinez and the pure ****ing glory of the Rockyesque performance against Cordoba, and even the loss to Poonsawat. Always honest in what he did, always truthful with himself and the fans and always a true ****ing fighter. He might not have had an unshakeable chin but he had an unshakeable will to win. I miss him already.
