R.I.P. FORREST. if it's any consolidation, it took a gun to take my boy out, because they know their hands couldn't have done the job.

It wasn't a car chase. Vernon had a flat tire and pulled into a gas station. He got help and was in the process of getting his tire up, but unbeknownst to him some thugs were eying his the jewelry and car. So one of them with the gun came up and took his watch at gun point, then was in the process of taking his car that his wife and kids were in. Something else occurred and they ran off (I think they scraped the idea of taking his car when they noticed that his whole family was in there), but Vernon went after them with his gun. It's understandable, he was in the heat of the moment, had got his watch and championship rings stolen, all in front of his children and wife. And he shot at them, they at him. Then he turned around to go back to the car (I guess he thought they ran out of sight) but at that point someone ran up and shot in the back 8 times.

I hope he makes it. His last fight he was so damn happy man. It's almost as if he knew, subconsciously that he wasn't going to live much longer after that. He said nothing that he does after that will matter anymore because due to this fight, he knows he is a HOFer now being a 5 time champion and that was all he wanted.

If anyone should be carrying a gun it should be a good guy. It's the thugs who are the problem.

    :?

he actually replied to a myspace msg i sent him before the 2nd Mora fight, wishing him luck. I told him that when he's smiling and cheerful, he performs great. When he talks trash and looks serious, he performs poorly.

He had a smile tattooed to his fact before the rematch, and looked fantastic.

Worst of all, we lost a great human being. That's why his death was more painful than Gatti's. Think about all the unfortunate people he's helped and would have helped had he been alive.

Vernons death is sadly one of many sensless killings in todays society, and its usually the dick heads who come out smelling of roses in this day and age.. Vernon was a giving man who stood up for what is right, and its his morals that may have got him killed. He probably would give you the shirt off his back or the watch and car you wished if you never had it and he thought that you deserved it, but to try to steal and take it unlawfully he stood his ground and paid a horrid price for it.... Vernon was a great man and everyone who met him or read his story knows the truth... We just dont have the great guy to admire any more.. We are the ones who lose out... Vernon probably would not change a thing.. he was doing what he thought was right....... I miss him too.

A truly amazing human being, unbelievably generous and consistently put others before himself. I literally can't believe how nice a guy he was, I wish I were even half the man he was.

On top of that he was a ****ing fantastic fighter, his right hand was absolutely lethal. He'll be missed, both by the sport and by those that he helped during his lifetime.

Such a tragic ending to his life, but he did more in his short time than i'll ever do in mine!

Wherever you are now Vernon, I salute you!
