The 'what fights did you watch today?' thread

everytime there someone ask's for suggestions for a fight to watch i nearly always type kaylor/christie .it is a great british fight :good:good:good

 

Technically it was Kaylor-Christie II. A rematch from their fight at the press conference.

 

i watched Gatti v ruelas & robinson earlier. two absolute wars!!!

 

I actually rate the Gatti-Robinson fights as Gatti's most exciting wars, even more so than the Ward fights. Bizzarely though, they rarely get a mention and are often overlooked.

 

I think Micky Ward should be very thankful he fought Arturo Gatti when he looks back on his legacy. Although I am a fan of his.

 

Ward is a great warrior and servant to the game, but you're right, if it wasn't for Gatti he wouldn't be anywhere near as recognised as widely as he is. And I say that with the utmost respect.

 

They are classic bouts but IMO they lack the drama of the 1st and 3rd Ward bouts (with round 9 and the broken hand). I did think the Robinson fights were pretty good, I just think they lacked amazing drama.

My favrouite Gatti fight is Gatti vs Rodriguez.

 

I was blown away by them. Maybe it was more so an "at the time" thing. When they occurred (think it was '98 from memory), they were the best fights I'd ever seen (pre Barrera-Morales I, of course).
By the time of the Ward fights, Gatti being in unbelievable wars was pretty much the standard default for him!

I have a Gatti career set and he starts his career as a decent stand-up boxer puncher, he then starts getting into wars. Then gets into his boxing abit more then regresses back into wars then gets back to boxing, then kinda turns into an entertainer to see out his career.

But that Rodriguez fight IMO is his best fight, Im not too keen on the Ruelas fight, need to watch it again though only watched it once and that was ages ago.

Yesterday, on the way home, I was thinking about the Chas Symonds vs Ross Minter fight.

So, as I have a copy of it at home, I watched that last night.

What a small hall classic that was!

If someone reading this has a copy and can upload it onto Youtube it would be a great addition!

I had this with Leonard winning by 2 rounds. It would have been interesting to see this fight over 15 rounds - but Leonard negotiated that this one would be a 12 rounder.

Hagler started off fighting in the orthadox stance for the first two rounds and it was a disaster. He reverted back to his stronger southpaw style and did a good job hitting the body and throwing effective right hand leads. Leonard was eye catching with his 'showy' flurries.

One thing to note here is that Hagler never even considered complaining about low blows - even though he got whacked low on at least two occasions in the earlier rounds. Compare this with Clottey's behaviour against Cotto - you can't beat the old skool aka Hagler.

Leonard should have been deducted a point for his spoiling and holding - he did this from the off and Richard Steele should have came down on this - as it constantly impeded Hagler's excellent inside game. Hagler got through with much more body punches from round 5 onwards - but I felt that he was not protected enough against the frequent clinches and holding from Leonard.

Still, Leonard deservedly won by SD.

 

Watched Conteh - Muhammad I tonight on YT, great fight between 2 LHW legends! Muhammad seemed to thrive on eating shots sometimes. Following that up with with Muhammad - Lopez now, awesome fight so far! Can't believe I've never seen it......
