Jeez Don't cry about it Russell :| - clearly everyone is biased - towards whoever they get the impression would win?? Don't really see your point?? - just like you're clearly biased strongly against Marciano? - I was only making a general point on that Marciano-Ali thing because everyone who picks holes in Marciano generally says he was pretty slow afoot and I was just making the point that at 45 after 12/13 years out of the game he was still quick enough to close down Ali - I know Ali was out of shape too but he was still only, what 27 (I can't remember) and had only really been out of the ring for a comparatively short 1 year/1 and a half years tops and he still looked to be moving pretty well in that anyhow - someone that naturally fast and athletic doesn't just become slow when out of shape (the movement was still there) - don't get so over the top about it - just a general feeling that I took from watching it thats all - I was just thinking god if it had been the young 27-29 year old Rock I get the impression he would've stayed right with Ali (even with the in shape Ali of a year and a half previous)
PS All the Tua-talk is a poor comparison - totally different type of fighter - very unimaginative (read: devoid of ideas) and totally passive when presented with anything mildly testing - respect him and all for his strength and power but really there is no comparison with Marciano - Tua only really blasted out your journey men types and people who were slightly chinny anyway - seems like quite a nice guy so none of this is meant in a derogatory way just don't really think he's all that - looks the business but really at the top level i think he's a little lacking - think his challenge to Lennox Lewis for instance was one of (if not) the biggest let downs ever IMO - he just didn't try (even if he didn't have a clue what to do, he should've still gone for it??)
I must say that Bruno has taken a lot of big shots before going bye bye. The only time he was blown out was against Tyson, when Frank was scared shitless. Even in that fight, he took a beating for 3 rounds without fighting back before getting ktfod. Marciano was relentless and was a big hitter, but he hit no harder than anybody Frank faced. I find it hard to believe that Rocky could hit just as hard as Tyson or Bonecrusher. Frank outboxed pretty much everybody he faced until he got tired, and I think the only way for Rocky to win this is to tire Frank out and stop him late. Either way, Rocky takes a viscious beating and goes down a few times. Rocky had more heart and fighting spirit, so I wouldn't bet against him, but Frank could definately win this just by boxing or stopping Rocky. This is a pick em fight.
YEPPER! I agree..... While Bruno was indeed kayoable, he never actually went out like a light from merely "One" bomb.... Bruno usually had to be hammered down and out.... People need to consider that........ And Bruno was was stopped by mothers such as "Smith, Tyson & Lewis." Note: Them dudes are ALL serious punchers too..... No shame seeing stars and counting sheep after tasting the leather from them melon-farmers... MR.BILL
bruno got so anxious in a fight that he tired rediculously easy. always brave he just got slower and slower and never learnt to pace himself or coast without becoming a sitting duck after shooting his bolt. bruno did not take out anyone good (who wanted to win) with one shot. against rocky he would fade like a deflated baloon.
Bruno just didn't have the natural fighter's mentality to prevail against a fighter as intense and determined as Marciano. Sooner of later Frank would fold.
If the punch at 8:15 happens at any other time than just before the bell then it's all over for Bruno : [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp1odQQ6N7E[/ame]
I just broke out my "Bruno-McCall" tape from 1995....... Christ, I swear that it seemed McCall was crying during the ring introductions... Anyway, a decent fight, but Bruno was on target with that jab of his... McCall never could slip or get around Bruno's jab..... MR.BILL Note: I'm stoked... I forgot that I also taped Eastwood and Jeff Bridges in "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" from '74 on the same tape..... I DIG THAT FLICK! :thumbsup
I swear, Bruno was a juicer by 1995 all the way....... No way was he naturally trained... At 245+ pounds of chisled muscle, he was just too buffed...... MR.BILL
He was always hugely muscled, but I do think he might have juiced sometime in the 90s. He was like 248 in one of his fights and it was pure muscle. Then again, I think Lennox Lewis was juicing too. And most of the other top heavyweights. :deal
I still think Bruno's sheer size would overcome Marciano. Even though Rocky was a better fighter in most,if not all categories. To two trained athletes,42-50 lbs is a lot of fighting weight. For example Barry McGuigan,a featherweight was a far better fighter, pound for pound than Dennis Andries,a light-heavyweight. I still would n't fancy Barry's chances against Dennis in a fight. There was the same weight difference between them than there was between Marciano and Bruno. Roy Jones and John Ruiz was strictly a one off. Jones won that on in and out lateral movement, which was n't Marciano's style. As I previously mentioned,Marciano would knock Bruno out if they were a similar weight.
maybe? Bruno stands 6'3", has a long reach, decent jab, and good power. His chin was not so great and he tired in the late rounds more than once. With that said, I'll take Marciano inside of 8 or 9 rounds.
Agreed, Marciano get's a lot of points from people in head to head fantasy match-ups for his legacy, but we all know that legacy means little of your facing someone who is potentially all wrong for you.
