And Jones wouldn't be a style nightmare for Calzaghe?

Jones would win a clear UD.

    Don't be stupid

  4. Without a doubt. Roy dropped Cal when he was way past it. Calzaghe would have been part of Roys highlight videos had he fought him in his prime.

That actually isn't too far off. Calzaghe is stiff and nervous early in fights. If the Jones who fought Griffin in the rematch shows up, Calzaghe WOULD NOT get out of the first round. That old man he fought with Roy's name knocked him on his ass, so did BHop....both in the 1st round.

I have always thought Calzaghe would be Jones toughest test during his prime, more so than Hopkins, Benn, Collins or Eubank.

I think Jones would struggle with the workrate, speed and pressure Calzaghe exerts on his opponents. Jones would have to impose his power to keep Calzaghe of him. But Jones would win, he had the speed and power and most importantly was elusive enough to win the majority of the rounds.

Jones by wide ud. Maybe something like 9-3 or 10-2. Jones was a beast and Calzaghe's chin was NOT granite as Hopkins, Old Jones, and Byron Mitchell showed.

I think Jones stops him. Sure Calzaghe is a tough fight for anyone but Jones in his prime would have been able to catch Joe coming in a lot more frequently like he did in the first round of their fight. I say eventually Jones stops him.

Rjj used to move around the ring in his prime plant his feet and blast his victims with power that was unreal. If you watch the first tWo rounds rj was moving making joe chase him. And he looked ok. I remember when he stepped back and caught joe with a uppercut and a left hook in the second. In rjjs prime when he landed that left hook people thought wow i have been hit by a bomb i don't want that again. U have to look carfully and see roy used to have alot more strength. I beleave jones would have boxed on the back foot and that plays in to his hands watching the fight. Joe was there to get hit big but roy could not throw

Who has Jones ever struggled with? You calzaghe sack swingers make me absolutely nuts. Who has Calzaghe ever fought, in their prime, who is even close to on Jones's level. Jones always struggled with fighters like Calzaghe?:patsch Provide proof of that dude, thanks :good Calzaghe had fast hands and high workrate, sadly though he has very leaky defense and keeps his head straight up when he punches. Toney, Hopkins and definitely Jones all whoop his ass in their prime, which is why Calzaghe never stepped up his competition. He was fighting Peter Manfredo and Sakio Bika leading up to retirement. He beat Jones....but so did Tarver X2, Johnson and Green. He beat Hopkins, but so did Taylor X2 before him, he beat Kessler, but Ward just outclassed a more experienced and primer Kessler.

Face it dude, Calzaghe chose the road in his career of low risk, high reward....even more so then Jones did. Hey, he may have been able to beat all of the other prime greats who were around, but he didn't even try so his reputation and legacy will always suffer.

Based on what? Calzaghe v Hopkins & Jones at end of his career? Outside of that you'll do well to find a first round Calzaghe lost in his whole career.

    Always competitive

Calzaghe had all the intangibles like heart & determination to go along with his speed, skill & workrate. However, at SMW Jones easily matches him for workrate and surpasses him in speed & power. Also, at SMW Jones was putting hurt in his punches - see the Pazienza & Brannon fights for evidence.

For me, Calzaghe gives it everything but Jones was a force of nature at SMW and I think he works Calzaghe over as the fight goes on. Calzaghe may have seen the final bell cos he was a tough SOB but he wasn't too hard to hit and would have got beaten up.

Would love to have seen it!

I think its quite depressing that this question is even being asked... If Jones had retired after Ruiz this wouldn't even be a debate (in my opinion)
