You're mentioning crap Hatton performances and include Urango and Collazo but omit Lazcano (his absolute crappest winning performance)? :huh
DemolitionDan, newbie stays logged in and points out that he originally wrote "comparative jockstrap carrier" and suggests you learn to understand why words are used in conjunction with each other. A little rhetorical? Possibly, but are you really arguing that Hatton isn't classes below Marquez as an exemplar of the fistic art? Please expound, if that is, indeed, what you are arguing. That Tszyu was #3 P4P doesn't have quite as much value as you're placing on it. Yeah, it's significant to the prestige of Hatton's win (without devalueing Cotto's any), but Tszyu's ranking was retained through a period of scant activity - his P4P work in 2 years prior to fighting Hatton was stopping shopworn Sharmba, whom he'd already beaten, and stopping even more shopworn Leija. Factor in that Mosley's P4P stock has resurrected since a war with Cotto -- which suggests he was still right up there with the elite from any division all along -- and those wins are at least equal. I'd actually say Cotto's was better since he actually put on an exhibition of classic boxing and didn't require any leniency from a hometown official (or kindness from Top Rank sponsored judges, as, if we're going to be honest, despite what some say to the contrary, that's a clear Cotto UD even when you want to score it for Mosley). Just to note - I realize I neglected to mention Hatton's battering of a glass-pawed, strategically directionless version of Malignaggi (again, after Cotto possibly beat his best years outta him) above, but I actually class the win over cherry-picked retiree Lazcano as superior at that post N'Dou I/pre Sharif stage of Paul's career (which is saying something). Now there's some supreme irony. Well done, you.
You can poke through every single fighters resume, and say "Well, this isn't good" "Oh he was shot" blah blah blah. Just look at the bias here. "A peak Malignaggi" LMAO WTF! Paulie's last two outings he has never looked better. "Making an old Tzsyu quit" ...and your point? A "jockstrap-carrier" shouldn't beat Tzsyu, old, prime, whatever. Or and KT was P4P number 3 in the world. "Clottey (one eye)...Collazo (in which he was dead at the final bell)" Both of these should be positives, but instead it's a positive for Cotto and a negative for Hatton. Hatton was fighting at a new weight division in a new country, give the man a break and he beat a very good Collazo. I may'be a massive Hatton fan, but I'm not blindly bias and say Hatton beats everybody in the world, but this Hatton hate is ****ing ridiculous. You may not like the guy, but at least respect what he did, and that was be the best at JWW for 4 years. Put away your hate, and admit that he was a decent fighter, or pretty good or whatever, because Hatton wasn't dog **** or a "jockstrap-carrier" as you say. I hate fighters as well, but I at least give them their respect that they deserve.
I'm not arguing that Marquez P4P isn't a better fighter than Hatton, I'm just sick of haters, like you, not giving respect to fighters like Hatton and what they accomplish. Instead, when they are at their lowest point of their career you just kick them while they are down.
DemolitionDan KO1 Noob. Nope, the noob got up at the 10 count. Edit: Something tells me the noob is no noob.
Paulie has looked better than his last 2 outings. Sharif has turned him back in the right direction, but there are nuances to all this that shouldn't be ignored. please consider the opposition in the recent performances you're hailing as his career-best, Juan Diaz. Paul looked great, but it's still chubby-even-at-lightweight-nevermind-almost-140 Juan Diaz (after he was in some almighty wars, t'boot). And that's from a HUGE Malignaggi booster. I love the kid. But he was headed down the crapper at the time he fought Ngoudjo (Ngoudjo won that, which I hate admitting), N'dou II (Christ, you could make an awkward case for Lovemore winning that and Paulie annihilated him first time out, which further highlights the downward turn his form had taken in 2008) and Hatton. Daniel, my friend, I refer you to the top of my previous post for insight on my use of the phrase "jockstrap-carrier". Making Zoo quit is a fine achievement. My issue is more with the claim that it represents a far greater achievement than Cotto's win over Mosley purely because Tszyu had a high P4P ranking than Shane at the respective times those victories were earned. I also think the manner of those victories should be factored in. Both points addressed in my previous post, so I refer you there again. You know what I like about Hatton? His fighting heart. He won't stay down if he is physically able to rise off the canvas. I do love and admire that about him, even if I don't like the man and I find his style repugnant. See? It isn't blind hate. If it were, I wouldn't be able to bring myself to acclaim that redemptive quality in Ricky.
You are incorrect, Cholly! Noob wasn't even buzzed by DemoDan's heavy hand. Noob is a noob poster. Not a noob reader. And if you fellas can tolerate the abject dementia of NALLEGE, you can tolerate me.
You seem to know your stuff noob poster, as well as the tendencies of some esb denizens. I smell an alt account. In fairness to DemoDan, the jockstrap carrier remark would get me too if I were a big Hatton fan.
That's okay. This is the only account I've ever made on ESB, but I understand the suspicion. To the bold, I don't mind Dan fighting his boy's corner against a somewhat rhetorical and relative remark if he wishes. That's the whole point of these threads. Debate, impassioned discussion, thrashing the finer points out until we reach some kind of truth, yadda.
i may not agree with all you think there hulme#1, but you seem a quality poster, you should post more and help even out the balance in the general forum lol. :good
Just to clarify, because I neglected to before, Collazo is a fine win. Collazo is a very handy welterweight -- a tough guy, too -- and Hatton did bravely well to survive a perilous late stage. But the peril he found himself in was reflective mostly of his abilities IMO. Cotto fought most of his fight with a very hampering injury caused by a butt, against a rugged as **** Clottey who was ripping him with right hands he couldn't see coming because of it. That's how I explain what you perceived as a negative/positive imbalance in appraising those 2 close and contentious wins. But when you take into account Hatton was out of the optimum divisional depth for his style to be effective, and the enthusiasm and gameness with which he acquitted himself to the early pace which won him the fight on the cards, you gotta score it about equal. Both excellent wins. So I acknowledge and concede your point there. And I did point out that Mosley was old when Cotto fought him, too, not just Tszyu. Still think, overall, Cotto's ledger has notably more depth. The only thing Cotto has against him, really, is the vacant belts thing, he never wrung a title from an established champion. But that isn't too damning, ultimately.
Thanks Des and i agree man, hattons truth lies somewhere in the middle... he was indeed a good fighter who did more then most people ever lacing a glove will, and compared to his peers of his generation was one of the top fighters and held his weightclass on lock for a good portion of it, and even became 'the man' by beating 'the man' of his very division, but when compared to the complete 'elite' of his generation and of boxings history, of course he falls short. No shame in that.... IMO.
LOL Thanks for the welcome. I'll post when I can, I dunno why I waited this long or why this topic...just timing. Cheers all.
