Shawne Merriman with out a doubt.

He actually trains in boxing in the off season to keep in shape.

That guy is the new hybrid Outside Linebacker. Just only if he was quicker.

I'd like to see a less muscular Julius Peppers in action. Natural southpaw, 6-6, long arms, huge hands, very good balance and coordination (played basketball very well at UNC).

But my first pick would be Allen Iverson. That little ****er weighs next to nothing and has spent the last decade taking a nightly pounding. He is the quickest athlete I've ever seen, and his long arms would pay off huge as well. He'd be good at anything he wanted.

Overall, there's no question that most jumbo American athletes pursue sports other than boxing. That said, you never know who would be willing to take a punch and who wouldn't. Some guys just can't stand getting hit, no matter how tough they are otherwise.

Mundine is a good example of someone who made the
    transition.

I agree. As big and athletic as these guys are, it takes a certain type of person to want to get hit in the face and keep competing. Iverson is one of those guys, and I think the crazy NFL special teams players probably are, too.

But they all think you can start after your NFL career is over, and you can't. The training for football is totally different from boxing.

Iverson is a great pick for a smaller guy, no doubt he's more athletic than even PBF.

Linebackers come first to mind because of the balance of speed, quickness, strength, and size you'd look for in a heavyweight boxer.. the new breed of Defensive Ends as well fit the bill.

Tight ends would be a great choice as well, and the new breed of 6'4" 240lb QB's are solid body types for boxers.

If anyone can take a shot, it's a QB.

I can tell you right now the best heavyweight in the world has probably never had a professional fight. And likely he is either tossing a football, throwing a jumpshot or writing out paperwork.

I couldn't give you names as I honestly don't watch any sport other than boxing. But when I was in college I met and spent time with alot of guys who had all the ability in the world but had other goals. That's just the state of the world and boxing doesn't fit.

If these huge NFL players started boxing early in life then they would be much smaller versions of themselves. If they had been doing huge amounts of cardio their whole lives with a lot less weight lifting then they would be smaller and less explosive. That is not my opinion, that's a fact.

    Not really.

You're not gonna go from 6'5" 250lb down to 6'5" 190... they might come into the ring at top shape of 225 or 230 though, plent of size.

You think the guys coming into Heavyweight fights now at 240+ are in top shape? Bull****.

You have no facts to back up they'd be less explosive. Why would anyone think that inferior athletes that are going into boxing these days in the higher weight classes were destined to be better boxers than SUPERIOR athletes who play football or basketball.

That's called putting your head in the sand and being stupid.

I never really bought into that "American athletes are in other sports" crap.

Take Michael Jordan for instance, arguably the best basketball player of all time & he tried Baseball & couldn't make it off the farm team.

The explosiveness of these athletes are fueled by weight lifting programs and small doses of cardio. Go ahead and try to make big gains in the weight room while trying to recover from 5-6 days a week boxing and roadwork. A person only has so much recovery ability and cardio kills strength gains. I don't need to site studies or sources because I have been training in a boxing gym for nearly a decade. When I started I was a 315 pound weight lifter that could dunk a basketball. The issue is that I had terrible cardio just like most power athletes. I had to start out sparring by doing the 1 minute toughman rounds. It took 2 years to be able to spar 4 rounds with a half decent Heavy. I stay in good shape now. I lift 3 days a week in a strongman facility and 5 days of boxing. The result is that I'm only 250 pounds. My diet was supervised the entire time by my wife who has been a dietician for 13 years. Hard Cardio will make you smaller and take away some of your explosiveness. That my friend is a fact. Don't call people with real world experience stupid when all that you are working from is theory.
