It was hard to score from the rez i was getting but it did look like Angulo had it in the bag and Zappa needed a KO to win going into the last round, stranger things have happen in boxing lol
Angulo looked like he won but the early rounds were to lz. Also round 12 and a couple more easily makes the fight close lz landed many really clean body shots throughout. I would have given the edge to angulo but the cuts from headbutt made the fight look better for angulo imo. Draw probably would have been more understandable.
Angulo schooled him. Made Zappa miss all night. 3 Showtime judges sitting ringside pretty much agreed. Zappa's team knew he won the moment the final bell rang. They knew he only had to get through the fight to get the decision. That's what happens when you are the promoters boy and they have the judges.
I'd like to hear what Phil has to say about Lennys win. While I am a big supporter of Lenny, unfortunately this time round he got beaten fair and square by Angulo. You only have to look at all of the swelling and bruising on zappas face...promoters decision of course
As I said at the pub, '**** 'em, we're still owed for Fenech-Nelson I.' I knew as soon as the point was deducted from Angulo, Zappa had it. He wouldn't have helped his case in coming in overweight, again.
Mate.. **** 'em... just like Leon says.. in the words of Jimmy Lennon Jnr "114... to 114..... A DRAW.... The decision is A DRAW" Anyone remember Noufel Ben Rabah vs Juan Urango??? Harding vs McCallum. Fammo vs Saldivar Griffo vs McAullife Tszyu vs Mas Trotter vs Pyatt/Hughes Kelly vs Pyatt etc. etc. etc. About time we got a little back from O/S efforts.
IB's card: 8-4 for Angulo. With the point deduction mandated by the ref, that's 115-112. Of those, the only rounds I consider too close to be 100% confident on are one that I gave to Zappa and one that I gave to Angulo. So even giving Zappa that close round that Angulo got, we're talking about 7-5 and a final score of 114-113 (for Angulo). Basically Zappa had the first third of the fight in hand; when Angulo started shrugging off his power and hitting him from all sorts of angles (not to mention the outpour of blood), Zap never fully regained his composure and got muscled.
..... especially if the judges want any future work... lol. Hope to see Zappa create more positive waves very shortly mate. He's got plenty to gain and time on his side. Kick arse Lenny.
The thing is, it isn't as though the young and talented Zappavigna wouldn't be able to easily bounce back and rebuild from a close decision loss to a determined past contender here. He'd be right in the mix again in no time, and based on his gutty showing would still get invited to return to American TV had the scores gone the other (right) way. Angulo, on the other hand, will likely never see another 12 rounder...at least not one of note. Don't try to spin it like there's twisted justice in this or "for the best". And the nationalistic payback angle is bollocks, too - unless Aussies have gotten tough breaks in Venezuela. Fernando ain't American. :deal
