For boxing just one year, you're doing a good job.

As already said, DEFENSE. Even though Kirk Johnson stank out the place, his defense made him able to go 12 rounds with Vitali Klitschko and come out almost unmarked. Look at Arreola what the tough man routine got him.

Speed, condition was already mentioned. So, I would add INSTINCT to it. Develop your instinctive answers, both the defensive ones and the offensives, now. If you take Felix Sturm, back when he fought instinctive, he was the next big thing. The best and fastest boxer at his weight class. Then his trainer started yelling at him for doing immaculate instinct actions that scored for him effortlessly, and got him towards the eastern euro one punch at a time thing - he lost like 3 classes from that. Being able to improvise is a great utility.

Thanks very much for that K Man. Its always good to be reminded of instinct and the sweet science as opposed to just being a barbaric heavyweight. Thanks very much. That's one of the reasons why we train with the Mayweathers...they are excellent teachers of the sweet science

hahaha i was just thinking the same! 99% of what u will read on here will be bull****!

be honest with yourself about your training and dedication

if you are 6/3 id say go to about 233lbs

look for the best sparring you can get- its the most important part of learning if you have started late

    good luck

well in this day and age- the modern heavyweight simply needs heart most of all. in other eras this is always true- but now especially. you have athleticism, talent, the trainers and therfore the fundamentals. but to be honest- the reason why most boxer do make it - or dont make it- always comes down to the inner voice that tells you to get up in the morning and train- or stay in bed and sleep a bit more. its as simple as that i think.

also, patience. in life as in anything. it takes years to develop any skill or craft. don't rush yourself or expect miracles. i ve seen so many fighters go into the gym- and after 6 months leave- beacause they didnt get where they thought they would- soon. they thought that they didnt have the innate talent so it wasnt worth it. but the champs werent the most talented- in fact they were often the guys who had to work harder. theyre the guys that stayed in the gym and kept coming and kept coming, year after year- and eventually became the big dogs in our gym.

im no champion. but i ve seen champions. and i ve seen what they do. do as the champs do- and you ll be successful, avoid doing what the bums do. its as simple as that. if you have 10 millionaires who are friends and add a dude to the crew- have him hang with them and join them - chances are- he ll be rich too. simple as that man. good habits rub off, as do bad ones, and of course success rubs off.

im excited that a young prospect would be humble enough to declare himself openly on eastside like this. very admirable. and we are all behind you. the entire world of boxing fans meet on this site- and to have you amongst us- trying to achieve something is truly admirable. go far man.

Hey Redz...I have not fought in Philly before. I was slated to start fighting at the Blue Horizon last year...but decided to go the amateur route instead. I want to be an established contender by my 11/12th fight like Solis and Gamboa. Not 25-0 and unranked you know.

on another note, that pitty patter routine that roger does with floyd= how does he do that- of course its choreographed- but does roger call out sets to floyd- so that he knows whats coming up? or is it just a long routine.

can floyd do that stuff freestyle???

are you learning this routine as well?

i find it fasciating - cos although it prbably dosent develp speed or power- it does develop anticipation skills. i notice roger throws typical but also awkward combos- so that the fighter knows exactly what can come from each position, so that floyd can reduce the possibilities down- and therfore anticipate better. for example after a left hook- the guy will have to throw a right- without having to reset his waist.

any insight into this would be awesome and much appreciated
