In my opinion, the toughest time to be a LHW was with out a doubt the period after Bob Foster retired in 74 after defending his title against Ahumada and when Micheal Spinks vacated his LHW title to fight the aging Larry Holmes.....

    That peiod featured:

    Victor Galindez
    Yaqui Lopez
    Mathew Saad Muhammad
    Eddy Mustafa Muhammad
    Marvin Johnson
    Micheal Spinks
    Dwight Muhammad Qawi
    John Conteh
    Mike Rossman

what an icredible period for the LHW....

Nice try. No one is dodging it. We have read this book already. You simply want to argue more about Jones when your viewpoint is clear already. You will prove nothing more nor will anyone else by entering this discussion.

Actually no, this is more a trubute to that increbible period in the LHW's taht gave us such competiton between so many great fighters evenly match, and willing and able to alid all on the line...that was the **** Bro.....and I hoestly wondered how you guys figured he would fiared against such tenacious competition...and I know you know what I mean when I mean tancious competiton.....they fought each other for pure pride of beating each other and find the best a quality rarely found in that many boxers in one division at one time

Plain and simple that is the truth.

Foster and Spinks may beat him. But he has more than a fair chance to beat them as well.

    The rest he beats.

But what does it matter....whatever we say. Whatever facts we bring up. Whatever opinions we express. Your mind is made up on your biased opinion so nothing will change.

If you wanted to do a tribute, then you next post shouldn't have been about RJJ fans and how the subject was avoided. You would have been looking for any objective opinion and not for RJJ fans.

Spinks can beat him. Jones could beat Spinks. I favor Spinks at 175. Jones would be favored over the rest of them.

This is the long and the short of it. Roy Jones is one of the greatest fighters of all time period. He beat the best there was in his era, and in most cases it was not even close. No one knows how anyone would have faired in another era. To the best of my knowledge, no one has cracked the time space continueum , so as always the era debate is hypothetical. I think RJJ on his best day could have beaten any LHW that ever lived. And on their best day, the elite lhw could have beaten him. No one is unbeatable, no one. If he did loose, who ever beat him would have to earn it and take some lumps in the process. 50-4 38 kos, enough said. Champ at 4 different weight classes.

Jones would have beaten all of them except Michael Spinks in my opinion. Matthew Saad Muhammad and Dwight Muhammad Qawi would have made for fun fights, but Roy would have beaten them.

I am amazed with the certainty and total disregard of the quality of boxers on this era that all of you RRJ fans speak of him on this era...please...these guys record might not be as full of maningless victories as RJJ is because they abuse each other for the pride of beating the best....that arrogance by all of RJJ fans is what irrotates many of us on this forum regarding RJJ....truly I don't really know how he would faired againt such hard hitters and crafty boxers....and anyone that said otherwise ....is a plain fool

I think Matthew Saad Muhammad would have beaten him and Victor Galindez would have a 50/50 shot too.

You have to admit that it is not out of the question that Roy beats them all.

no It was not the purpose of the thread...honestly iwas expecting that many ...specially you...would say....yes this was tough period to be LHW....and Roy would have needed to be at his best againt any of them regardless of the outcome...many that have posted that Roy would have dominated never seen any of this guys fight....and that a fact

He didn't need steroids to comfortably beat Hopkins or dominate Toney
