Farmboxer, please don't turn this into another stupid Floyd vs. Manny bashing thread. We have heard your opinion 100 times in 100 different threads. This content is protected
I used to root for the underdog more when I was younger since it was exciting on fight night to see the upset, but then I noticed that it was exciting the night of the upset only, and then later the big fight was not as big and boxing was not as good the following year. If Pacman wins then we get the Mayweather or Mosley winner to fight and that is better. If Clottey wins, who is going to care if Clottey fights Mayweather or Mosley? Not many.
No... You're a boxing promotion cheerleader, and a ******ed mother****er for thinking that Clottey fans have to root for Pac... or else they aren't true boxing fans, since you want to see your precious little "superfight" that's gonna "save" boxing. You represent what is keeping boxing down. Everyone worried about PPV#s and media hype, as opposed to wanting to see the best fighters in the ring with one another, despite thier drawing power.
Like the Avatar NBA! I don't really care who wins but i'm pulling for the little man! Clottey should win on paper but his fighting style is so boring that he's not something I wanna see in the future!!!!
Pac was built up by his promoters and is successful because he had the natural talents and put in enough work to deliver. Clottey has not been built up by anyone. All his chances were supposedly for his opponent's benefit. Margarito(couldn't get a fight), Cotto (needed to fight a legit welterweight before the Pac-Cotto fight), Pacqiaou(needs to stay busy for Pac-Floyd). What I'm saying is, Clottey has the abilities, just like Pac has, he just needs good promotion, good matching(like Pac, Cotto, Floyd) to become as popular. Pac, Floyd, Cotto are built fighters who had the abilities to back it(most of the time). All incidentally promoted by no other than the Bobfather. Shane Mosley is another example of a good fighter who didn't have good promotion(and incidentally he has 4 clear and 1 disputed loss, unlike Clottey who has three disputed losses and as Floyd says 'he's not a PPV fighter'). Don't mistake marketability or hype for what is good for the sport, otherwise, we'll just have to turn boxing into WWE where fights are arranged for entertainment not skill, willpower, determination or talent.
