When going up in weight, it seems many fighters don't lift weights...

its the way you use the weights , evander holyfield and bernard hopkins used weights and didnt lose any speed , Holyfield trained with Lee Haney a Mr Olympian Legend.

Someone like Hatton on the other hand used weights and it actually shortened his reach because he couldnt straighten him arms after curling.

Sounds better. I use every muscle in my arm when I hit with the up no weak links in the punch or you just snap the head back like cotto margarito going backwards throwing arm punches. More noticable is the Bicep. I dig the **** in. **** when Im training for it I get 2 weights and and throw uppercuts with them running in place. The Bicep catches the most wear then the shoulders. They become stronger the punch becomes stronger. I see mosley shaddow box with his weights but I aint ****ing with that his mechanics are perfect. I would dislocate somthing or tear it. I just work on my wrist and forearm.
Bottom line alot of power comes from the Back if your lacking power and your form is good you work on your back or the muscle used for the punches you perform. I come from a line of fighters and fought myself take it for what its worth

The old saying that lifing weights will decrease you ability as a fighter is a myth as far as I'm concerend. I've done both on and off since age and I never noticed a lack of agility or speed as I gained muscle... and there are examples of fighters using weight lifting to bulk up in wieght and did it very successfully. Holy to heavyweight, Roy Jones Jr. to heavyweight, and Pauli Ayala when he moved up and whooped Bones Adams in their rematch.

If its not going to be a permanent move den its better not to put on the muscle because losing the muscle weight will cause damage to your body. Such as what happened to Roy Jones when he went back down to LHW and couldn't move the way he used to. He still has speed, but his power isn't the same or his legs.

People are stupid when it comes to weights. Something I didn't hear anybody mention (perhaps I didn't notice) was to freakin STRETCH! Before, and after every damn workout...STRETCH those muscles out. Yeah, if I sit around, and curled a **** load of weight all day I'd get tight, and stiff, and would lose range of motion. That is why you stretch before (so you don't rip your cold muscles), and stretch after (to stretch those muscles out so you keep flexibility).
As for gaining strength you want to be like a max of 6. Go read up about it if you want to know more about it. It's ok to do higher reps (10-15) depending on what your going for though. As long as you stretch out, box, do your cardio (stay in shape) you should be fine no matter if your going for reps (more toning/ cardio/ not gaining a ton of muscle), or low reps (getting size, strength, and lots of muscle).

They don't go to the gym and do bench press or arm curls. They do strength training which involves weights with explosive movements, not sitting on the bench doing lifts, bulking up like a dumb body builder.Remember Marquez lifting rocks in broad daylight or some ive's seen use a giant hammer and hitting an oversized tyre etcetera.Strength training for strength, stamina and power.

Bench press is a great compound exercise. It's one of the core exercises of any strength training routine. Bench, Pullups, Deads, Cleans are pretty much all you need for building explosive strength in a variety of muscle groups.
