Have you ever tried to swat a fly? It is difficult. They see the world in slow motion compared to humans. Flys have a reaction time 10-25 times as quick as that of a human. Joan Guzman had, in his prime had a reaction time at least 3 times as quick as the average human, according to tests he took at UASD. Other boxers with impressive reaction times may be out there, I doubt any in history could match Guzman's 3 figure.
He should be up there among the pound 4 pound best, way way way tooo inactive!! In his last fight against Funeka it looked as though he has started to slow down... He should have stayed with Mayweather snr or got Roger to train him!!
It is possible there was a human being, somewhere who was more talented. But that someone would be a person who never came close to becoming a boxer, maybe a homeless heroin addict somewhere, who knows? Either way if they had been invloved in the sport, then we would know about them. Of all the people in history to have actually laced up the gloves, Guzman is the one.
And to answer your question Rob, Willie Pep. Far better, obvious choice but China Hand Joe said 'best ever' or whatnot, so I'll pick an ATG :good
this has possibly turned into the worst thread ever. First guzman's chances of getting a **** with marquez and now he should of been the greatest of all time and possibly still is? He's never stepped it up and there is probably a good reason why and his handlers / trainers will know this. some loco mofo's on here today. :lama ariba ariba!!
Given the right fights would be a sensation in the sport. Would have whooped Pac hard. Extremely talented and we will never know how far he could have gone.
Guzman was always a sloppy style over substance fighter.Could have been good at a lighter weight, but ultimately never had the mental discipline. No great talent, just an athletic fighter with a flashy reflexive style.PLenty have done it better.I agree he was fun to watach in his earlier years though.
waste of talent. lacks discipline. and power has left him since the move up in weight. good strong worker will beat him these days. just looking at his record and i forgot all about that draw with ali funeka. :huh
