I honestly think Green would be too expensive to bring to Montreal for a title defense. He wanted a 1/4 million to fight Bute last year. :patsch

I think as far as a first title defense. We're looking at an "easy" opponent like most champions do after winning the title. Some kind of homecoming celebration and a nice payday for Bute and his promoter.

Guys like Sanavia, Bozic, Beyer, etc....

Then for the second title defense in the spring. It will be against a guy well known in the USA.

    Andrade, Miranda, Lacy, Green, etc...

Then in the summer a mandatory title defense probably against Tsypko.

Then maybe a unification bout against who ever are the champions at that time.

The earliest that Bute will fight next is March 2008 (he said so himself). This gives him time to improve properly and take on someone good. If he does decide to take a fight in summer it will probably be in Romania - thus...June/July...if not...his second and last fight of the year would be in October/November, I think. If two fights, he would have a long time to prepare for each and fight someone good. If three, he might not push the boat out so far....But four fights in 2008? No way.

You are right, maxime! Bozic would be a good opponent for Bute.
The Croat is relatively highly ranked, defeated Lolenga Mock in his last fight, doesnt demand a high purse to travel over the ocean ,and is a decent fighter, but doesnt play in Bute's league.

I think it could make a good fight on the undercard of a Goldenboy card next summer. Perhaps on the undercard of Delahoya's next fight in may.

Bute makes a first title defense in febuary and then fights Andrade in may on HBO. That would be a pretty good plan.

We also have to consider that Bute is not a rich man yet. he should piles his pension plan first and works on his legacy thereafter. Guys like kessler and Calzaghe only became what they are after after 30 or 40 fights. The fight with berrio was his 21.

I think Bute vs. Brahmer would be a really good fight of two prospects. Brahmer got better technical skills than Bute, but he might be not that tough....would be intersting to know....

Both Calzaghe and Kessler became champs at 25 unlike Bute who are 27, so they had a couple more years to become big names. Calzaghe became champ in his fight no.23, which is pretty close to Bute. Kessler had 34 fights before winning the WBA title, but you have to take into account that he turned pro at 19 with only 47 amateur fights on his back, and he had to gain a lot of experience as a pro hence more pro fights before his first title fight.

I dont get how you can be a fan of Bute and then want him to meet Sanavia or Manfredo, dont you have any faith in your man???

Im not saying that he should meet Calzaghe or Kessler right away, but why make a step down, making that easy defences, he is the champion of the world in one of the 3 big ones ffs!

It's not about what we want. It's about how boxing works.

Like I said many times. Most new champions will make at least 1 "easy" title defense after winning a title for the first time.

Hopkins fought Steve Frank (15-2-0). Result: TKO1
Chad Dawson fought Jesus Ruiz (19-4-0). Result: TKO6
Joe Calzaghe fought Branko Sobot (14-1-0). Result: TKO3
Jeff Lacy fought Omar Sheika (26-6-0). Result: UD12
    etc..
    etc...
    etc....
