Not sure what you mean? brown consistantly ranks in many peoples top 10's...but not sturdy, what do you mean by that? I don't personally know how frequently he was down, but am not aware of him being stopped in afight either?

apologies for the lack of clarity. just meant, despite being 5'11, he wasn't terribly physically strong at the weight. not a bad choice by any means, but i feel he could have been overpowered by physically powerful opposition

not meant as a reflection of chin or toughness in the least.

Interesting Posts guys, especially middleweights... But who can answer me this one question, before I shuffle off this mortal coil ? This is the question...Simple and to the point....What 160 pound middleweight, you can name, could lick these great and much heavier fighters? GeneTunney, Tommy Loughran, Tommy Gibbons , Jack Dillon.,Battling Levinsky, Kid Norfolk, Billky Miske, Maxie Rosenbloom, Big Bill Brennan, Gunboat Smith,etc.. Please give me the name of the middleweight , that some boxing fans, pick as their greatest middleweight, who can defeat these heavier fighters... If you cannot honestly name such a fighter, aside from a physical freak as Bob Fitzimmons, perhaps... There was no such fighter you can seriously name except the ONE...The Pittsburgh Windmill...I await your answer...

An article by BBC.co.uk writen by Sean Davies, gave Driscoll 7 rds with 2 even ,one to Attell with Attell being in serious trouble in the 4th.
The NY Times gave Driscoll 5 rds, 3 to Attell and 1 even ,and said Attell was staggered in the 4th.
Mention is made of Driscoll outlanding Attell 2 to 1, and dominating with a classic straight left.

He had little or no problems with Patterson, Ellis or Bob Foster. And saying Cooper was a troublesome opponent... Clay was well in control in both fighs except for those seconds that Cooper managed to land that left hook. That's boxing. The other guy will always have the chance to capitalise on one second of carelessness. Doesn't mean he's necisssarily a difficult opponent. The very next round Clay came out and beat the crap out of him. Didn't seem to have too much trouble with Cooper then.

The Jones fight is another kettle of fish, though. This is probably the one that makes the best argument for Dempsey. This was a young Clay, though. Dempsey struggled with several opponents when he was 20, 21 as well.

Haven't got a tremendous amount of knowledge (historically) outside of the heavyweights so I don't know how legitimate the shouts will be?? I suppose most of these are swayed heavily by who i am most impressed by on film

HW - Rocky Marciano & Jack Dempsey

LHW - Ezzard Charles & Archie Moore

MW - Harry Greb & Ray Robinson (of the SVDM fight vs Jake)

WW - Ray Robinson & Henry Armstrong (PACMAN is chasing close behind trying to chomp them haha)

LW - Roberto Duran & Ike Williams

FW - Willie Pep & Kid Chocolate

BW - Terry McGorvern & Eder Jofre

FW - Jimmy Wilde & Pancho Villa

PS Cruiserweight best Holyfield and Super Middle Roy Jones Junior (particularly the Paz fight)
