Please educate this witless peasant. Seems to have had a short but sweet career packed with top class opponents. Sort of the anti-Calzaghe?
Watching some of his fights on youtube (Ernesto Ford) but the quality's pretty poor. Aggresive little ****er is my impression so far.
Hard as nails swarmer and when I say you could say the ultimate swarmer lol. Top amateur who represented his country in the 84 Olympics causing an upset beating the American who's name escapes me and stopping our own John Hyland from Liverpool, my next door neighbour at the time. Thrown in at the deep end as a pro and won the WBA title in only his 7th fight at bahtam beating highly regarded Khaokor Galaxy on a TD when Moon was cut by a clash of heads. Galaxy regained the title in Moon's 10th fighter with a brilliant display in a great fight exposing Moon's inexperience to an extent. Six months later he was WBC champ at light fly beating the big punching, powerful Nana Konadu on anothe TD. I think Moon's style had something to do with him suffering from cuts. Next up Gilberto Roman who he was too strong for. Two fights later he crushed Konadu in a rematch, Konadu would go on to win the bantamweight title 5 years later. He made 6more defences of the title including a 1st round TKO over the once great Hilario Zapata finishing his career. Lost the title to Jose Luis Bueno. There is quite a bit of him on youtube, I've seen the 2 Galaxy fights, Roman and the two Konadu fights. You must watch them specially the Galaxy fights.
Very nice post. And i never knew he fought John Hyland. Thanks for that. I've seen the Galaxy fight that Fleaman posted some time back. Moon is a real great fighter.
Yes, he was just to strong for John, swarmed all over him and stopped him. John was a great amateur and I saw him up close. I used to work out in the same gym as him. I saw him beat Paul Hodkinson at the Stadium as well. I was really impressed with Moon even then. I think he went out of the Olympics on a cut to Pedro Nolasco, could be wrong.
He is just a thug. You know when Mantequilla/Lora makes a joke about just going in swinging? Well that is Moon. Forget niceties, basically he is a wind-up soldier, you point him in a direction he walks forward throwing bombs. Changes direction, wlaks forward throwing bombs. Simple effective and brutal.
I personally love him and he is a personal favorite to watch. Although his movement and style would seem crude at first...
Here's the second konadu fight. At his thugging best. http://www.youtube.com/user/twomanriott#p/u/86/ZluKk7nIOgs http://www.youtube.com/user/twomanriott#p/u/85/hZ5DLV_ipmQ
Moon, resilient, only needed to swing and could beat you to a pulp. The 2 Konadu fights (the 2nd is an odd watch, especially if you've seen the first fight, but it is a good display of Moons aggresiveness I guess) and the two fights with Galaxy are a pretty good way to gauge him. He doesn't really change too much from what I can see, maybe the 2md fight with Khaokor just forced him to train even harder and that convinced him to move down to super-fly? Pure conjecture that statement though, maybe Mantequilla could provide some answers? Watching the 2nd Moon fight will give a greater appreciation of a guy I've got a lot of time for: Khaokor Galaxy. The superior twin gives a jaw dropping display in the Moon rematch; a good indication of what a tough S.O.B and warrior Moon is as well.
