Does Joshua Clottey Deserved the USD 2.5 Million Guaranteed Paycheck?

He doesn't deserve the 2.5 million guaranteed cause this fight was the biggest fight of his career and with 50 thousands people pay their hard earn money to watch a great fight and the people that pay 50 bucks to watch on ppv, he didn't even try hard at all. Clottey was there for 2 reasons and thats to not get it and not take a chance. <<<That to me easily shows he don't deserve the 2.5 guarantee pay day.

 

He showed up, he boxed, the money is paid by the viewers and attendence. He didn't put up much of a fight but a lot more than a certain KJ where he's compared with now.
So I think he earned it, but I can't see him ever getting a big paycheck again.

The question of course is if he deserved it, I'd say no... But I guess the enourmous amaounts of money going around in sport a redicoulous to begin with.

Clottey executed his normal strategy. Clottey has been described as not a true counter puncher but someone who shells up and then waits his turn. Pac had two possible strategies; #1 was a super high work rate such that Clottey never gets his turn and #2 Pac baits Clottey by standing in front of him to get him to open up so Pac can then land. Pac tried #2 occasionally but he mostly stuck with #1 and I don't think anyone predicted a 1200+ punch night from Pac.

Pac has been fighting guys who don't change much from fight to fight. Pac adjusts and dominates. That's part of what makes PBF vs Pac so appealing is that while PBF gets credit for making adjustments Pac doesn't get enough credit for his ability to game plan and adjust coming into the fight as well as trying different things during the fight. If the PBF/Pac fight ever happens we could see PBF trying 4-5 completely different tactics with Pac using 3-4 some of which we may never have seen from either boxer before.

 

yeah, clottey deserves the money. it might not of been a good performance from clottey, but pacquiao still threw over 1000 punches at him, and that alone is very tough to take. the thing is us boxing fans watching the fight on our arses don't have to be in that position, so we can talk all the **** we want without being the one in the ring having to get hurt. anyone who takes 1000 punches, or has the ability to block that amount of punches from a puncher like pacquioa, and still be standing after 12 rounds deserves the money.

Yes, he deserves what he agreed to be paid to fight Pacquiao. Why is anyone surprised by the result of this fight? Like I said from the very start, Clottey fails under bright lights, doesn't throw many punches, and tends to sit behind a high guard all night. He had a trash training camp, all circumstances against him - he was brought in to lose and he fulfilled his role. What more is to be expected? Yes, give him his money. It isn't his fault he never really had a chance.

 

Pride MMA used to have a system where if the fighters were not engaging they would get a yellow card which would mean a 25% cut in there pay.
