That is a worry. However, Ward is probably contracted with showtime for three fights atleast, and then a seperate Super Six contract. They will hold him to that contract regardless of whether he participates in the Super Six and injuries hold him back. He would have nowhere to go other than Showtime. He would have to be seriously stupid and arrogant to walk away.
From a non-legal standpoint it's ridicuous aswell. In the super-middle division there is noone but Bute of note to fight out there. These are rumours.

It does. But it creates a buzz. And superstars. I don't think this rumour is true anyway.

While i don't think this is true, if it was it would kill all future tournaments or ideas like the super six as champions would be much more hesitant to enter anything like that again.

This is precisely what Riddick Bowe did to avoid fighting Lewis.
Maybe Ward will get a load of sad apologists like Bowe did who will claim he would of won the fight whilst he just skulked away fighting nobodies..

I'd be surprised if this is true it seems like DiBella just spouting off. The tournament gives Ward a chance to be a star. If HBO offered him more money for a big fight then who knows. HBO has Dawson, Bute, and Pavlik who would all be big money options from HBO. Until something more comes out I just view this as rumors and not much else.

My impression of Ward so far is that he's a gentleman and not likely to do that but that's just an impression and who the hell knows, I guess.

Unless its officially announced by team Ward, I wont believe it.
If it is true, and he has to vacate the belt, how can the belt be contested as that belt was wrongly elevated to WBA super champ for the super 6 competition, and isnt supposed to exist if vacated. The regular WBA belt is owned by Sartison, but if that did happen im sure the WBA would then make a contest for the vacant WBA Super champ.

prolly just some slander for still feeling sore about the Kessler fight

but if its true then Ward is the biggest ***** in the sport and so is anybody else that is still a fan of his if he does drop out with the belt

In the tournament agreement there should be written black on white that
if someone leave the tournament on his own he should be stripped from
any kind of rewards (except financial) which he won during that time.

I've just posted in another thread that the only fighter I dislike is James Toney. Might have to add Ward to my shortlist

    What a ****
