Pacquiao got slightly ahead of them all when he won the WBC lightweight championship. He left them all miles behind when he beat clottey to become a legit WW champ.

As far as I can tell, he's indicating that there are plenty of worthy candidates from the Philippines alone. If expanded to Japan, Korea, etc., then it becomes even more competitive.

Still, Pacquiao is likely to win out in any debate with another Asian fighter at this point.

I guess you could argue it at a couple of different points in his recent career.

Id say there would be little doubt after the Hatton destruction...maybe before, but perhaps there was a debatable element there depending what criteria you use for ranking and how much you knew about Harada. I mean a lot people just take the first Famechon fight as it is on paper but the overwhelming consensus is that Harada was robbed in that fight and should have been by rights a 3 weight champion. Also he was absolutely jobbed in the Kingpetch rematch.

When Pac iced the best 140 pounder around at the time though, there couldnt be any argument whatsoever for him not being the greatest Asian fighter.
