He had the way to be one of the best ever if he just stayed in shape after the holyfield fight. He could have ruled heavy for 2 or 3 years if he was just had determination

His fight with Jirov is what sealed it for me. Anything afterwards was just icing on the cake.

James Toney is old school!!! He is the man no question about it...His skill is ATG status for sure...He could have accomplished sooooo much more than he did, but he still humiliated people badly..He was probably my number 1 fighter to watch and the guy is still around at such an old age..fought one of the hardest puncher in the sport in samuel peter and beat him once!!! All that coming from 160lbs and being completely fat and out of shape, but still could out box a much bigger man...If Roy and Toney ever fought again, Toney would take his head off IMO...Roy Can't hurt Toney at 200+ won't ever happen.

Toney humiliating Samuel Peter and not getting knocked out in 2 fights vs such a hard puncher is what was truley amazing.

How so? If RJJ tested positive I'd call him the same thing. I've always respected Toney. He is one of a kind and a solid fighter. It's just the tail end of his career with the roids and out of shape for his last fights that was a shame.

Yes, both skill-wise and when looking at his resume. He was a throwback fighter who had skills like guys in the 30s and 40s. His wins over Nunn, McCallum, Barkley, Jirov, and Holyfield are stellar as are his titles at 160, 168, and Cruiserweight. He "won" the WBA Heavyweight Title at well. Despite steroids, he ranks in the top 75 in my opinion - arguably top 50.

When did Griffin say Toney won? Yeah Toney probably is an ATG. He won real world titles at middleweight, super middleweight and cruiserweight. He also hasn't been stopped at heavyweight despite being 5'9-5' 10.5".

Griffin said that he thought Toney had won the first fight in the build-up to the second. The same time that Griffin said that he thought Toney was better than RJJ.

Oh and Djtech, just for you.

Copy of the letter sent to RJJ informing him of his failed test.

  11. He will probaly be a HOF someday, boxing HOF is much more Liberal than baseball,he is a total AS$HLOE outside the ring but did a lot of solid work before Roy whipped him in 94, he's done now the last fight with Peter ruined him, he slurrs his speech so bad now, you can barley understand him, not that anyone would want to most of what comes out of his fat piehole is garbage anyway:yep..

I never heard that one before. Hmmmm. Take a look at this

MG: After the first fight I wouldn't believe that. It was close and I dug a bit deeper than him and the judges gave me the last three rounds. I only had fourteen fights coming in and he had forty-eight. At the press conference prior to our second fight Toney said he was in great shape and he felt good and said there won't be any excuses. I went out there and beat him easier. After the first fight I said don't listen to the excuses about taking me lightly. I fought him twice and beat him both times.

im not sure what to think of him now.

i mean he was never very focused on training. the excuse about almost passing out to make weight verses roy jones is just that, an excuse. he obviously had weight loss problems his whole career but to show how great you are you should try your best to respect the sport and yourself.

and now he has tested not once, but twice! to steroids, i wonder how legit his resume is now. i mean, who is to say he would not have been beaten in many more fights? i already reckon one no-name italian american fighter outworked toney for 12 rounds but was robbed.

who was to say he was not juicing when he beat ruiz or holyfield???

and don't say skills beat ruiz/holyfield. you still need energy and power to get the opponents respect. so maybe he was juicing?

not to mention holyfield was shot by that time as well.

so really all i can consider now is that toney had an ATG chin, and a ATG mouth.

    Toney's early resume is spectacular.
