First Reg, and now Harry?

This is sad. My two favorite British commentators of all time are now gone.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Carpenter.

I send my condolences to the Carpenter family as well as every British boxing fan alive - you've lost another great one.

 

He was great commentator. RIP Harry.

 

It would make a fine tribute to a great man if the BBC could put together a programme of his commentaries.

 

RIP 'Arry.

 

What sad news, his commentary's sit with many great boxing moments forever.

sad day for british boxing.

sportsnight on a wed was one of the highlights of my week in the 70`s and harrys enthusiasm and knowledge and skilled commentry made it what it was.

 

I remember watching Bruno-Tyson I for the first time last year (the fight took place before I was born) and even though I knew the result I was getting all excited when Harry said "And Tyson is hurt....Get in there Frank"

It was almost like I was watching it live.

Him and Reg were great commentators. No offence, but the commentator's we have today ain't a patch on either of 'em. I'm just slightly jealous of all of you who grew up with boxing on the BBC and ITV and listening to these two commentators who really knew the sport.

 

Very sad news this. Another iconic Harry Carpenter moment:

"And Bobby Wells has done it....<voice breaking> for Britain!" when Bobby Wells won Britain's only boxing medal of the 1984 Olympics.

RIP Harry you will be sorely missed.

 

Without doubt, Harry gave me one of my fondest sporting memories with his infamous "Get in there Frank!!" comment during Bruno v Tyson I

He admitted that for a second he dropped his impartiality but everybody knew just how he felt.

I have great memories as a kid waiting up for Sportsnight...:good

I remember Dave "Boy" Green's tearful farewell and the night Charlie Magri fought Sot Chitlada very well...:yep

Harry will have a seat on Gods canvas tonight amongst the best that have left us from our Sport.

Rest in Peace Harry...

At least he'll be up there watching fights with Reg again.

RIP Harry....a true legend and gentleman....not often a commentator was so synonomous with a boxing personality, as was the case with our Frank and 'Arry.

 

A very classy man, in a sometimes horrid sport, we were lucky to have him.

I know he was involved with other sports, but he seemed to have a special relationship with boxing.

He has left us with many great memories.
