Some funny comments on here, and the monster thread on this forum:yep

    "Dodson too big too strong"
"I'll smash Paul Smith - Simple"
"I hate Paul Smith, talks like he is Muhammad Ali"

Someone hit the nail on the head saying I couldn't win no matter what on this forum, it's a lose lose situation.
Going into this fight (according to most on this particular thread) I was in with a PROPER super middleweight, a big puncher who'd knock me out and a genuine warrior. He dwarfed me at press conferences and I'm only a middleweight - apparently.

So I won, convincingly, was too strong for him, too durable, too fit and too brave. The warrior showed no heart and didn't want to win. Had his own heart broke when he didn't hurt me with his best shot in the 6th round and was desperate for the fight to end on cuts. - Simple "guys"
His mates have been on here saying the referee is a frank warren referee been back handed ffs:patsch:happy

I've never been disrespected as much by a fellow boxer as I got in the last fight, and I've never bad mouthed a fighter the way I do Dodson, but it is deserved. Respect is earned, not demanded and it is easily lost.

Some comments about me are way off the mark, I'm not cocky, arrogant or big headed and I don't disrespect fighters. I don't think I am better than I am and I don't talk of world titles like they are a God given right to me. I am proud being British champion, God willing I will hopefully win the European and if I can get a crack at a world title I will give my every last ounce to try and win it - Those who know me will confirm that whether they like me or not.:good

Thanks for reading, glad to clear a few things up. Thanks for the support as always!

    Paul Smith - LIVERPOOL! :good:thumbsup;)

PS - The Quigley post fight Sky interview. "Can't get motivated" meant I WAS motivated for Quigley, and for that title. Meaning I gave more effort of course than fighting journeymen foreigners. I respect Tony Quigley. Did before the fight and do more after it, he is a very good fighter:good

PPS! - The "lacing my gloves" shout from dodson.... The gym he trained in at the time was MY GYM. Rotunda ABC. I was 14.... Do the maths from our DOB's.:patsch mine is 1982 dodson's is 1980. Can you turn pro at 16 in Britain?:hi:
I used to go on the pads with Kenny Willis and watch a prospect called Gary Lockett train - Then start my own training an hour later.

If I could make it and be strong at it, I'd have stayed there.
I don't fear anyone at middleweight, that is certainly not the reason I moved up. Weight and performance were the only factors.
It's kind of Ironic that Dodson said I was taking the soft touch moving up to HIS weight category.

Didn't see this post of yours before I replied....
Soft around the stomach yet never been hurt there. Not every fighter is ripped and look like manny pacquiao.
Plus my power is there, don't worry about it rarely being seen ;)

Cuts are healing well thank you. Obviously they were baddens but the worst are in my hair, high up on my head and likely to never open up again.
So I only have one on my eye 'keep my eye on' for boxing.

I don't mind who it is, anyone. I want to go forwards now....:good

How long do you expect to be out of action with the cuts Paul? Do you think you'll manage to get the two defenses of the lonsdale belt in before a WBO shot?

Smigga, I was commenting earlier on the thread that you step in with the jab alot of time, which means that opponents often tie you up before you can get off with the big right hand. Have you ever thought of employing a range-finder type jab and staying back and fighting more on the outside, and giving yourself more space to get your shots off?

Congrats on the win by the way.

That's Frank's job. I just sit down and discuss my options with him and the matchmaker. They haven't done me wrong so far.
    I'll be fighting June/July thanks:good

You know what Tony, before I saw this thread I always thought you were a bit of a gobshite (no offence) and rated yourself better than you was.

However after watching the build up to this fight in particular and listening to Dodsons talk before hand I started to warm to you a little more. I don't think the last two fights of yours have been great but after watching you get cut so early it was plainly obvious to me that Dodson had no intention of doing anything else during the fight apart from charging in with his head and holding. After the 8th it was also apparent that it wasn't gonna get stopped and Dodson had no answer after that point. I found myself respecting you a hell of a lot more after that fight and having read your recent comments on here it seems I may have been wrong.

Fair play mate and best of luck :good

Thanks Bonavena, yes I know exactly what you mean. My problem is I'm over eager. Some will disagree but when you know you can hurt someone with a jab, you wanna do it all the time.
I know it's wrong, every trainer that has worked with me has told me so. I just get a bit carried away and want to win at any costs. The gameplan went with dodson due to a bad cut in 1st round.
Gameplan with Quigley went in mid rounds due to same. But I'm learning to deal with cuts more now and there was a strong mental improvement for my last fight.

**** yeah you're called Paul sorry :deal

I wasn't being smart there either even though Ishy is laughing. I had stated so before about you so I wasn't gonna lie about it and start sucking up to you coz you now post here :good

Also even though I wasn't over-keen (at the time of course) I went to the Echo on my own for your Quigley fight and was stone cold sober but when you came out to 'real Gone Kid' and the crowd did that litttle "Ooooh Oooh" that was one of the best ringwalks I've seen. Top atmosphere :good

MEN still shits on the echo though :deal
