Bute is a fairly well known quantity by now. He is definitely not more overrated than the other top guys in the division. We still haven't seen Bute fight a fast, slick fighter with good footwork, but then, there aren't that many around! At his best, Bute is a B+ level fighter. When he's not at his best, he's B to B+. We'll see how good he really is when he faces another B+ level fighter, like Abraham or Ward (if he is as good as we think he is), or Pavlik or Dawson. Anyone who beats Bute clearly without getting lucky must be A- or better. If Bute beats any of these four clearly, without getting lucky, he is at least A-.
HEY HEY HEY! Watch it now! Them are fightin words! You dont have to disrespect my boy to help your case! :bbb :good
The question is up to this point in time...amongst the best at 168, who can say they really beat the elite fighters besides Andre Ward with (1) ? Abraham ? Not even close... Froch ? He beat a green Pascal; an ex-middleweight champ with very little behind his belt at 168 and another green boxer in Dirrell. Kessler ? Who did you consider truly elite amongst the guys he beat, even if he was considered the top guy ? No one's overrated at 168 which is simply a very talented division right now. There's no clear #1 but there certainly is a clear top 5 guys whom can probably beat any other on any good night !
I wouldn't say overrated with solid wins over Bika and Andrade, but not tested against the best at 168. He'll really get tested by Abraham, Ward, Direll, or Froch.
Someone earlier in the thread said that Green's resume was on the same level as Bute's. I didn't go back to check if that was you. Sorry about that. It seems like we're mostly on the same page. I just happen to think the other top guys at 168 are mostly about the same level of proven at this point. That will change as the Super Six progresses, but I don't think it's a stretch to say that Bute should still be #1 in the division. There's a decent argument that Ward should be #1 based on the way he decimated Kessler, which is by far the best win any of these guys has. There are arguments for Froch or Abraham as well, but I don't really buy them. All four guys are in the 15 - 25 range on my P4P list though.
no that's true,Bute get hit a lot in the Andrade fights compare to Kessler in his fight against Andrade :nono
I agree somewhat. His resume is filled with high ranking but limited fighters like you mentioned. He's never really fought a highly skilled top fighter yet. BUT his abilities can not be questioned and he should be favored or atleast even money against every single fighter at 168.
No, but he's a top 10 fighter and it's a better win than anything on the resume of, say, Allan Green or Andre Dirrell. Hell, Yusaf Mack and Vitali Tsypko are better wins than any win on either of their resumes. Tsypko is arguable, but you get the point. And of course they both beat the same titlist. The other three titlists are all undefeated.
Hi everyone, I dont want to repeat too much what others have already said. I'm a Bute fan and I'm not ashame of it. But I can understand the reality of things. And every (serious) sides in this discussion have realy good points. I think in fact that we all talk the same language. It's just that when your a fan of an athlete you tend to love him/her so much that in some point you just want the best for him and you want others to understand your feelings and all. In Québec when we love we love big time and it's the same when we dislike. But, the thing is, I remember after the first Andrande fight, all the drama, all the hate, all the question mark. A lot of boxing fans at this time "decide" that Bute wasnt elite, he robed a great figther, etc. I also remember that a lot of boxing fans were convince that Bute will get KO by Andrade in the rematch. So when Bute KOed Andrade in this fashion, I think a lot of people were more than surprise, they could'nt believe it. Then I think some boxing fans start to "overate" Bute. And I think at this moment, in the weeks following his win against Andrade he was overated by some. But now after some time as pass, boxing fans can see what happened, a first fight with Andrade that was in fact a mistake. He bounce back great and now he continu in his career's plan that him and his coach have in mind. I can easily guess that right now Lucian is only thinking about his next fight. Also, I'm sure he is please to see fans around the world following him, loving him and cheering him. And I'm sure nobody in this world wants more to be the best than Bute himself. Every boxer, athlete, at this level, are champions. They need to win, they need to compete, they need to prove themselves all the time. I will watch the super six, I will watch Bute, I will be in awe before these geat warriors, these champions as they win and loose. In the future, one of those will surely show the world that he is the King of these kings, he will prove without a doubt that he is the best. Then and only then we will have our answer. Next episode saturday night as Abraham and Dirrel will face each other, cheer all!
