At this point I would like to invite the anti elbows on the ground crowd to suck my ****.

Just cause cuts and end fights early huh?

I don't like Jones. At all. But he just proved a clear point.

100% agree. Jones has the most devastating elbows I have seen in a LONG time.

Well, if you are a family member of Bonnar, Vera or Hamil then you could find things to not like - mainly his throws, elbows and spinning backfists.

I understand no kicking, stomping etc to the head cos that **** can cause crazy damage in my opinion.

Way to dangerous. UFC would have a hard time establishing any superstars. There's enough injuries as it is with the rules they have. Lots of people would no longer train for UFC as well because it'd be way to high risk/ low reward. Coming up through the ranks (whenever you aren't making much $) you risk career threatening/ life threatening injury.
Not worth the risk, and thus a lot less people training/ a lot harder for MMA to make it.

Could have a graduated ruleset; for example championship fights are 5 rounds rather than 3, so there is a precedent.

There are also things such as the rule that a UK promotion (I think Cage Rage) had, whereas the ref would declare when it was ok to kick to the head on the ground once the opponent was able to defend himself.

I think it is sort of playing with danger because of the media backlash, but from a saftey standpoint it isn't all that much more dangerous than say a knee from the clinch.

Headbutts are pretty safe actually, and I would like to see them, but in reality they make a fight much slower and, in some peoples eyes, boring, because they make the guard very very tight with no room for much action.

In general I am in favor of less rules, but the people who ***** about elbows causing cuts have absolutely no leg to stand on and are usually just bitter UFC haters who sit in dark rooms watching Pride DVDs. Elbows don't cause fight causing cuts any more than punches or knees, and they absolutely can end a fight just like any other strike; even if they couldn't they are too valuable of a tool to give up.

You could cut a guy standing with them as well like Marcus Davis. That part is MT, cant take that away and it's not those GP elbows are not devastaing anyway

So what happened to Vera. Sure, he got smashed by a wicked elbow but he wasn't near being Ko'd. Did it crush his cheek bone or something?
