Haha... the announcers were saying how Manfredo was a huge star in the USA. And, that stoppage was a huge joke. I'm very, very happy that Calzaghe won't have a home-town ref against Kesselr.

ITV boxing is very lame, they do not care about quality match ups and will hype up any old rubbish to get the casual fans interested.
The Manfredo stoppage was very unsatisfying, but who was to blame? Peter Manfredo was not even attempting to fight, and the ref had no option.

Let's be honest, the guy had virtually no chance, and it was a disgrace that he even got a shot. Joe did himself no favours by facing a reality tv show contestant, but he probably didn't get much of a say in the matter.

There is no way Manfredo would have won that fight, but the ref certainly did have an option. Just because you throw 20 shots before you're opponent responds doesn't mean the fight should be stopped. Very few of those shots were even landing, and none of them had any snap.

This is true, but I think the ref took into consideration the fact that Manfredo had up until that point offered absolutely nothing. He froze and was completely outclassed, Joe knew this and simply went through the motions.

It's a sad fact that this was never meant to be a serious challenge. Any boxing fan knew it was just another commercial TV event. A bit like WWF wrestling where nobody gets hurt and everybody gets paid.

Well, maybe you don't know, but the poor guy was way out of his depth, and it was fairly obvious he wasn't going to last much longer either way.
Manfredo should be thankful he didn't get a Jeff Lacy style drubbing.

I don't know what it is with english refs and stopping it early. If they're gonna get a beating, let them get a beating, that's what they'd want. It's boxing?! That particular ref I've seen give quite a few stoppages that were plain rediculous.

Calzaghe would have won, although he did break his hand. The punches weren't landing because Peter was ducking so low though, Joe had to punch downwards to get him.

If Manfredo was allowed to carry on I am sure he would have stopped Calzaghe in the next round or two.............:patsch

Yes, I was joking. I am sure the Calzaghe haters here were too....they cannot be that clueless? (Apart from Standi)

Calzaghe did not dominate Manfredo in the slightest. Both fighters did nothing and Calzaghe barely landed any punches and Manfredo did get some body shots in. If a guy smurks at the ref after the stoppage like WTF. That was the most bull**** stoppage in the history of the sport.

    You must be joking ?

Calzaghe owned Manfredo so bad that Pete has to go round his house every Sunday and wash his cars.

Calzaghe was dominating Manfredo, but not hurting him. I wouldn't be surprised if Manfredo didn't land a single punch. Calzaghe probably landed about 20 slaps and 10 pitty pat jabs.

    exactly, manfredo had no chance.

maybe the ref should have waiting for peter womanfredo to go down a few times before he stopped it. waste of 9 minutes of my time lol
