Awesome first fight but shouldnt JMM be defending his title vs someone who he didnt KO ? Diaz hasnt looked good winning since Katsidis. On PPV ? Just terrible but hopefully HBO actually produces the show so we can watch a free replay. Bob Arum said Bernabe Concepcion would face JuanMa Lopez on Showtime that night so we can watch that for free.
LOL JMM run away from khan fight to rematch a guy he already knocked out! Diaz has already been exposed as an overrated one dimensional fighter... why the **** fight him again.
I'm with Lampley. HBO spent all of last year trumpeting that they have gone to a matchmaking model based on two sound principles: 1) Buy fights not fighters; 2) Put marginal PPV fights (this certainly qualifies) on WCB. It's clear they've violated the second prong. I have no interest seeing two over the hill guys (Diaz included) go at it coming off convincing losses.
the thing is that if Khan dominates Malignaggi, it will make this fight even more meaningless. its good to see JMM back in action, but he should've gone after someone like Soto or Valero.
Why is everybody acting like this is all GBP's fault though? It is JMM's choice to fight Juan Diaz. It is bull**** that they are throwing it on PPV though. I want to see a Valero-JMM fight, but that looks like a long shot now that Valero has ****ed up with that domestic incident and add that to the fact that Arum and Oscar hate each other right now. But if not Valero, why not Funeka? This is why JMM will never pass up Barrera or Morales legacy wise because he goes after these bull**** match ups outside of Pac.
atsch Diaz won like 9 rounds agianst a contender and a current Champ and landed high number combos at will that night.
I would have rather seen the old lion JMM succumb to Khan or even watch him fight an old timer league match with Hatton than this nonsense.
valero would KHTFO... JMM is too old for a fighter like valero. soto would have been the better match up
Diaz looked very good against Katsidis and against Marquez. But the sustained punishment and knockout clearly took something out of him, ala Hatton-Floyd. This is an in-house fight for GBP, and the most lucrative available. Both are over the hill, so Diaz still has a chance. He is terrific for marketing purposes, being Mexican, well-spoken, and a Univ grad, so if he wins, great. Marquez is Mexican and a big name, so if he wins, great too. If anyone is going to ruin Diaz, it may as well be a profitable house fighter. GBP is win-win here. Outside of Hatton, Marquez doesn't have a better chance to make money, and Hatton is a blimp who can't make up his mind. Pacquiao is lucrative, but it would embarrass Marquez, being old and out of his weight class, to be blown out by a guy he's already beat. HBO's blowjob team wouldn't be able to shut the fuk up about it for the next several years. And considering the grudge between GBP and Top Rank, and between Pac and JMM themselves, there is too much pride involved for this fight to be made. At least I hope so. It's years too late. It's either Hatton or Diaz for JMM, and perhaps this is a sign that Hatton won't fight. Hopefully this is a negotiation ploy to make Fatso hurry the fuk up.
