I know we have discussed this before and the list is not very long it is a very small club. I think Baer, Louis, and Foreman are on there. Who else?
I can think of seven linear heavyweight champions, off the top of my head, who had 50 plus knockouts on their records: Baer Carnera Charles Dempsey Fitzsimmons Foreman Louis I imagine Sullivan would join them if we had his complete record available and confirmed. Tunney is close. If we find a few more fights for his record, he might make it.
Even outside the ranks of lineal champions, a preliminary examination reveals that this is not as long a list for heavyweights as one might expect. Galento (57), Williams (58), Chuvalo (64), Shavers (68), Retzlaff (52), Fulton (70), Wills (54), Langford (127), Godfrey (78), Gains (60), Brennan (64). Charles and Fitz got many of their KO wins against non heavyweights. The validity of Carnera's knockout percentage has always been questioned.
Jack Dempsey scored 51 KOs Ezzard Charles- 54 wins by KO in his 96 wins... the most wins by any HW champ btw. Charles is also the only HW champ who went undefeated as an amateur (42-0). Primo Carnera went 88-14 (72) Wladimir Klitschko has 48 so far Gene Tunney scored 48 Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson, and James Toney all have 44 Ernie Shavers was never a World Champ but he did score 68 KOs
