I agree with this totally. He should have atleast thrown some punches while he had Hardy on the ground. Hardy didn't even have one scratch on him!
It's not Jacksons or GSP's fault, its just that there is nobody at WW strong and skilled enough to handle him. When he moves to Middle he will be much more exciting again.
I just watched it again and **** me I cannot believe Hardy did not tap on the kimura. The armbar was bad, but at it's worst moment GSP had lost some of the grip with his legs, so Hardy's body was able to rock with the arm and take off some of the stress. But the kimura...:admin Horrible.
Hey Dawg, do you see GSP fighting at 185 soon? I mean, there is very little left for him at 170, but it has been that way for a while now. My guess is that it is Jackson (A great trainer who's job it is to formulate a strategy for Georges wins his fights, regardless of excitement or entertainment) who has ensured that GSP has not "Moved up" to 185, and from a trainers point of view, that is good advice!!
Hard to argue with much of anything on this thread. GSP did what he needed to do to win the fight without risking a lucky punch landing. Nothing wrong with that, but he wasn't able to get into ground and pound mode like he normally does and that frustrated him and his coaches, which is why they are telling him not to try passing guard, but rather to stand up and rain punches on Hardy. But full credit to Hardy for having the skills to neutralize GSP's G'n'P and surviving those submission holds. Boring? Ya a bit, but only because it was so predictable and only because GSP wasn't able to dominate as much as he wanted to on the ground. Not too sure what else he could have done though, that's the funny part. Basically he won every minute of every round but couldn't submit or KO Hardy. End of story.
I liked the fight yesterday. Thought it was very interesting to see him trying to solve the puzzle of how to stop Hardy and coming very close to it on several occasions. I think if Hardy submits to that first arm bar, people would not say the same
I really don't see how he and the UFC can justify not doing it. GSP is always gonna fight smart and until he is matched with guys who can offset his strength with their own strength and skill, his fights will be textbook victories like tonight. He is just too dynamic and fast on his feet to realistically get caught like he did against Serra again, and really who wants to see that anyway. I want to see him CHALLENGED, not caught with a shot. I think they should've moved him up to fight Hendo before Hendo left, that fight would've been great. I think the fight that should be made right now is GSP vs Bisping, that is a great fight for GSP to test the waters at 185 and it would be a big fight because, for reasons I can't understand, Bisping still has a big fanbase
He is relying on his grappling alot but he does go for loads of subs. Not only that but his last two fights were against the most dangerous strikers of his career so he had to fight them like that. Put him in with less feared strikers and I think he will strike more himself.
I don't agree that GSP is a boring fighter, but I do agree that the Hardy fight was a less than exciting fight... Just look at the Fitch fight. The end result was the same, but GSP was pounding on him all the way through. He even stood up with him and traded a couple of times (each time GSP won the exchange as well). However, I recognize that it wouldn't have been smart to do the same with Hardy... Still, made for a less exciting fight. P.S. The person that talked about him not being able to finish Penn is on drugs. Penn looked like a two year old getting mauled by a bear in their second fight. Penn was going to be forced to stop before the end of the five rounds, whether it be by his corner or GSP it really didn't matter.
Shut.....the eff up. That was me and everything I said was spot on. He dominated a much smaller man for 20 minutes but never got into a position to stop him. Simple as that. Penn's corner stopped the fight because any hope of Penn winning was lost, so they saved him further punishment. Just like Fitch, Kos and Alves and Hardy.....total domination, no stoppage.
I agree with GSP that that was quite a poor performance...I could understand that style of fight if he was fighting Rousimar Palhares or Damien Maia, but Hardy really offered no threat and he should have been able to finish him. 'Dont pass the guard', wtf
You know, GSP does not really ever land heavy gnp. Compared and contrast with Carwin who damages ppl with 2" punches. GSP either needs to land a lot to do any damage, or be able to use knees or something. Like punching power, some guys can do a lot of damage with short elbows and punches and some cant. I guess gsp cant. The thing is he really wasnt that conservative; he was taking the guys back and passing at will, but meh...
Oh, so you are the tool. Yeah man, sorry to say it (not THAT sorry), but you are painfully wrong. Wait, did you actually watch the fight? Maybe that is the problem, you only read about it. It would make more sense because it was pretty damn obvious that he was on his way out. Next time watch the fight before you talk out of your ass... If you did watch the fight (and thats a big if) then you should probably refrain from commenting on fights in the future; because you obviously weren't able to comprehend what you were seeing. P.S. Penn admitted that he was "borderline knocked out" during the fourth round. Yeah sounds like he was in great condition to finish the fifth round without being stopped.
Why do you think I didn't watch the fight? Why are you so ass hurt over me saying what I'm saying? Penns corner stopped the fight, GSP couldn't not sub, or tko him. He beat the hell out of him though. And GSP and Penn are my favorite fighters, why the hell would I not watch the fight. I never said he was in great condition to finish either, obviously he wasn't which is why his corner stopped it.
