:good Good points made!! The manner of Frank's defeats (and Carwin's style) are why I gave Carwin a great chance of inflicting another defeat on Mir.
I said before the added weight means bugger all considering his style and il repeat it again. Frank is a submission guy with some striking ability. Adding 20lbs to compete with Lesnar and the other big heavies was a waste of time. He should of been working on his fighting ability instead. Plus it wasnt even a quality 20lbs. He just looks fat and soft to me. Either way he was fighting Carwin. Considering his chin has never been up to much he may have wanted to add the 20lbs there..
While I agree he's too big at 270, but I don't think he's 'too small for the bigger HW's' - Mir himself is a natural 240-250, and quick and explosive at that weight. He lost last night because Carwin wa a bad style matchup for him and an excellent fighter himself. Mir thought that the way to beat Brock was to wrestle and clinch and grapple with him, and wear him out like it looked like Randy was about it. He was probably right. But the way to do it isnt becoming 270lbs. I don't think Mir can beat Brock again anyway - he wont lose to s pure jiu jitsu style fighter again. Mir at 245 is a faster, more dangerous fighter; but he still loses to Carwin and Brock and a few otheres imo.
I agree. Frank lost because he was getting punched in the face, not because of added lean muscle mass. It would be different if Mir used to move around like Machida, and suddenly fought like Tank Abbott. I think Mir is an improved fighter, but will never be the best of the best. I hope he disagrees, and keeps improving.
Mir carries himself as a real smart bloke.Which is a crock of ****. As Carwin said it takes more then 6months of weights to nsuddenly have super strength.Blokes like Carwin and Brock have been doing intense strength based training since there teens. And they are naturally huge blokes. Mir comes along and in six months puts on 20pounds to a frame that wasnt small to start with..Ofcourse he was going to get bigger and stronger when in comparison to his previous size/feats in the gym etc. But the bonehead completely went away from his own game plans and became obsessed with lesnar and his frame/form of training.. The fact is Mir is naturally smaller, weaker and just doesnt have the greatest chin in the world.. His own arrogance blocks out the truth filtering through his thick skull. His own arrogance also made it very easy for Carwin to dictate the bout..
A lot of good points in this thread. Having lost to Lesnar and Carwin has people writing him off way too quickly. I think he's be a hell of a match up for Velasquez for example, as Velasquez's game is a lot more about speed and technique and volume of punches than Lesnar or Carwin. Against Velasquez (and most other heavies in the UFC) Mir would have a chance to use his stills because Velasquez doesn't have that huge power to end it right off and even if Velasquez takes him down Mir might have a chance to work his guard. I agree with everyone that says the putting on 20 lbs to try to chase Lesnar was a dumb move. If in their second fight he was half as strong as Lesnar now he'd be 60% as strong. He'd still get owned if strength was the determining factor. Also, it probably did slow him down and could hurt his cardio, not to mention if he decides to go back down to a more normal weight he's going to have to do it right or he'll end up fat.
Ive just watched Mir Carwin and Mir Lesnar 2 , and im 100% convinced Mir is worse off the size he is at now , absolutley convinced of it . Carwin pins him up against the cage and he's ****in gasping for air after throwing no more than 10 - 14 shots , for the small amount of time he is stood up with Lesnar he is light on his feet on his toes showing angles , showing faints , you could see it Brocks movement he was baffled by the movement of Mir !!!!!! Now i know Carwin is a better boxer than Lesnar and its not a great comparison but **** me the difference is mind boggling how Mir can think this extra weight is helping him , he was gassed against Carwin im telling ya , watch the fight again he was struggling to breathe . Im really interested to know how Mir's sparring went for this fight you know !!!!!!!!
