Kind of suprised that a visiting fighter would expect his entire stay to be catered for him? Would expect any top athlete to have their own nutritional programme and sort that out themselves. All he ate was fruit? There wasn't anyone in his camp he could send out to Tescos?

Visiting fighter get an allowance don't they? Even if not, his camp could find a few quid for some vegetables I'm sure.

Monte Barrett wasn't happy when he was over here, apparently he was messed about by Haye.

 

imo it doesn't matter if they fight at home or in the away. It is the away fighters responsibility to ensure that they have the right diet etc. Hotel bookings should be checked, and if not happy **** them off. I believe a lot of it is a nice little angle for a fighter to hold on to if they do not win.
these people are grown men, not amateur kids that need these things doing for them.

Monte Barrett wasn't happy with a £30 a day allowance for food and he moaned about his hotel which Haye apparently used before his fight with Maccarinelli. He also complained about the flight over. He just whinged the whole time it seemed

The assassination attempt on Joe Calzaghe by the English:

JOE Calzaghe was the victim of a shocking attempt to sabotage his world title defence in Newcastle last night, it was claimed yesterday.
Promoter Frank Warren called in police after chards of glass were found in an ice cream the 26-year-old WBO super-middleweight champion was about to eat on Friday night.
The previous evening, glass had also been found in Calzaghe's cup of coffee at the same hotel.
Warren fumed: "I think it was a wicked act of sabotage against Joe - and against our show. Who knows what damage it could have caused? It leaves me disgusted."



After Friday's weigh-in, Welshman Calzaghe, who was facing former champion Robin Reid last night, ordered the ice cream to quench his thirst. But as he was about to start it, his great friend and rival Richie Woodhall, who was with him, spotted something glinting in the dish.
"Believe me, this is no publicity stunt. Someone did this quite cold- bloodedly," said Warren.

JOE CALZAGHE faces the most difficult task of his career in Sheffield next week - beating up the friend who saved his life.

"I know it's not going to be easy, but I'll have to summon up every inch of my professionalism," said Wales's WBO world super- middleweight champion.

Calzaghe meets Midlander Richie Woodhall, his best pal in boxing, nearly two years after they appeared together on a show in Newcastle.

"I'll never forget the build-up to that show," said Calzaghe, who was defending his title against Liverpool's Robin Reid. "I hadn't managed my weight very well and I suddenly had to lose 6lb in a couple of hours before the weigh-in.

"I sweated it out in a sauna and I was so dehydrated when I finished that after the weigh-in I just couldn't eat anything solid.

"I ordered a great big bowl of ice-cream at the hotel. Richie was at the table with me when it came.

"I went to tuck in when he suddenly shouted for me to stop and grabbed the dish. He had spotted bits of broken glass all over it.

"Goodness knows what would have happened if I'd eaten it. It would have ripped open my stomach, probably killed me. So I'll always be grateful to him for that."

Woodhall also recalls the incident vividly. "It was a bit of a shake-up for the two of us. We know we can get hurt in the ring - but nothing seems safer than eating a bowl of ice-cream."

But for 28-year-old Calzaghe, unbeaten in 29 fights, it has to be business before sentiment.

"We go back a long way," he said. "I once sparred with him when I just 17 and he was the star of our Olympic team.
