    Cons :
    1. Leonard asked Lalonde to come down to a new dvision of supermiddleweight (limit of 168) when Lalonde is actually a lightheavyweight (limit of 175).

    2. Fought for two belts, the supermiddleweight and the light heavyweight, despite the fight being at supermiddleweight.

    3. Lalonde was not exactly an elite fighter.

    4. Leonard went up 1 division higher.

    Pros :
    1. Leonard never fought as high as supermiddleweight. Infact, he had two welterweight fights, then a middleweight fight with Hagler at 160 prior to this fight.

    2. It was his 4th fight in 6 years, and 2nd fight in the last 4 years, so basically he was so inactive.

    Cons :
    1. JMM was asked to climb 2 divisions higher to welterweight.

    2. Even at lightweight, JMM was not exactly very impressive against the likes of Diaz, Casamayor. Sure, he was able to KO the two, but it was more competitive than it should be.

    3. Mayweather showed up 2 pounds above the agreed weight of 144.

    4. Floyd did not go down in weight.

    Pros :
    1. JMM is the pound for pound number 2 at that time.

    2. Floyd is inactive for close to 2 years.

I can not think of any other fights that has this much stacking in favor of one fighter. If you think you can think of any, feel free to add.

170 was the weight. You could add Leonard for asking Hagler to fight in the first thumbless gloves (pillows) And only fight 12 rounds instead of 15.

I thought about that, but then, thumbless gloves and 12 rounds fight became standards.

Thumbless fights actaullay was good for boxing because boxers used to poke the eyes of the opponents during clinches, especially if they know that the referee is at thier back.

I think they were much different than what the thumbless gloves are today. By boxing rec I am wrong about the Lalonde fight but I was always under the impression that it was fought at 170.

It was 168, because both the SMW and LHW titles were at stake.

You are quite right there because the thumbless gloves at that time were thumb gloves with the thumb part sewed to the main body. The design is basically different but the intention was the same.

    15 round fights are overarted.

Most of the 15 rounds fight I saw were by the 13th round, the fighters were just swinging at ech other without regards to defense as they are both so dead tired that the chances of KO is almost negligible.

I am not saying that all 15 rounders are like that, but most are.

It just became a fight on who has more stamina than anything else.

The card were clearly stacked against JMM. Jumping two weight divisions against even an average fighter is tough enough for some of the best fighters.
