They should go back and disqualify Ward for an illegal headbutt. It was an illegal headbutt that stopped the fight. Ward's personal referee protected him. A referee can make a huge difference. What if Abraham had had his personal referee?

 

He fights out of Germany. His fanbase is German. His supporters on this forum are largely European. The people claiming that Dirrell faked it are generally European.

This tournament has been pitched as Europeons vs Americans from day one. There were endless threads about how the Americans didn't belong in the tournament, that the Europeans were the truth at 168, and that the Americans didn't have a chance.

Now the two European favorites have lost to the American prospects that supposedly didn't even deserve to be in the tournament. The same people making threads about the Europeans dominating the tournaments are all eating crow, and there is a delicious schadenfraude (a great German word...I'm not xenophobe) in riling them up further.

If you take anything you read on here that seriously and can't enjoy some gamesmanship then I'm sorry that you're incapable of experiencing joy or pleasure. Also, Farmboxer is an utter ****ing ****** and deserves to have his feathers ruffled at every opportunity.

 

He had his own personal referee for about 28 fights in Germany, so we know exactly what happens.

He didnt see the punch coming, with the way his head was positioned his neck wasnt able to take much force and Abraham was punching down getting alot of leverage. I doubt he was faking it.

 

He probably was hurt, but did a little acting to accentuate the foul.

Its hard to imagine that when you get KO'd your natural response is to continue punching while you're laying on the ground in dreamland.

Notice how Pinklon Thomas stretches his arm to go down more comfortably. He was out for a few seconds before recovering and attempting to get up.

The point is people react differently to getting KO'd.

Dirrell wasn't faking it. You always have to look at the motive.

Winning handily on the scorecards with 1 and half rounds to go not to mention being fouled in what is usually grounds for disqualification the motive simply isn't there. The whole faking it accusation is predicated on the notion that he wanted to quit or find a way out of the fight. He had no reason to. Abraham had more of a reason to find a way out so that he can take back to Germany an excuse as to why Dirrell boxed his ears off. And lucky for Abraham, that cheap shot and poor sportsmanship salvaged his image amongst partisan fans. Had he accepted responsibility or had he fought cleanly and lost like a man then it would be hard to make excuses for him ignoring what a tremendous performance AD put together throughout the course of the fight and instead speculating on a what if scenario in which Abraham KO was imminent despite there not being in anything to suggest it was even a plausible scenario.

I think there are two things we can agree on

1. Abraham is a big puncher (I think this is consensus)
2. Dirrell was not expecting that punch.

Add to the fact that punching downward on a stationary target is going to get alot more leverage, then you can only imagine that Dirrell is going to feel it. Big time, especially since Abraham is a revered puncher at 168.
