Guys on their back seem to be going for subs but do you think there is still potential in blending boxing, wrestling, muay thai and bjj to create a grappler/striker off their back. That is the chance for guys to get away with 12-6 elbows cos they become 3-9. It is hard but I think they need to practice that. Maybe more heel kicks like when BJ did it to (fill in the blank and remind me, I think Florian). Anyone got a GIF for Sanchez nailing the **** out of Guida with elbows from his back? Anyone got good examples of guys fighting off their backs? Hardy could have used some better fighting ability off his back.
Yes - the best striking techniques from the back are the downward elbow strikes to the head and the heel strikes to the opponent's back. Watch Maurice Smith vs Mark Coleman for the best example of striking from the back as well as classic Gracie fights for best use of the heel strikes to the kidneys.
Travis Lutter. Only possible because Lutter was trapped in a submission hold, thus not able to move and defend himself. (He tapped to the hold, and not the strikes)
the current thinking in mma seems to be your better off trying to get back to your feet then fighting off your back. i know marc laimon has been preaching this and hes a ground fighting wizard.
