Your a promoter what would you do?

To make British boxing more exciting, well, they started Prizefighter and I actually like those. It's a good way to get people interested and for fighters to build up a record. I think fighters should have more fights than 3 or 4 times a year, especially if they are 4-6 rounders.

Instead of having all those crap dancing and reality TV shows, why don't they have a boxing reality show where they train novice boxers or new boxers and put them against each other. They will gain a lot of popularity this way and could perhaps encourage people to take up the sport and become healthy. They did that in America.

They should merge for the sake of boxing, the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and Ring belts into one. The fighters holding titles fight in a round robin for the top title.

One mandatory a year. A round robin between European champs, top ranked fighters etc.

Reduce the weight divisions removing some of the close divisions.

The idea is to have a lot of good boxers fighting each other for the right to fight for the championship of the world. When your champion the whole world will know that you are the champion in that weight division.

Far too many unknown champs in the sport and unequal distribution wealth.

 

I would have Hatton fighting Hamed and the winner gets a shot at Haye.

Also I would arrange tag team boxing, sort of like prizefighter but you are in tag teams and there are no timed rounds but you fight for upto 20minutes non stop.

Naked ring card girls as well and a special competition where you can vote for a person (10p per call) and that person then goes in the ring and one of the callers (selected at random) can throw 2 punches at them or a ninja death star from 10 metres at them init. For first phone vote I would have FW, fat Mick, Maloney and Hobson as choices. Also a special raffle draw for all those who have bought tickets and the prize is you can shag one of the card girls (your choice) or do the promoter up his ass (for those that way inclined).

 

I would try to have at least one fight on every card I promote between two journeymen. With both of them knowing there's a chance of a win they would go for it and hopefully make a pretty competative fight. If the rest of the card turns out crap at least the punters would be talking about that one fight.

I wouldn't do anything fancy on the boxing side of things. I'd just move my fighter along a sensible progression gauging when he's ready all the time from his fights and gymwork. I'd make sure he has a trainer I trust and respect so I can consult him on his development and be certain. I wouldn't waste years of his prime. If I had a prospect I think could be world class this would be vaguely my plan, give or take depending on the prospect:

A few fights with journeymen. A few. Not 10, 3, 4 or 5 to ease into the pro game, most of the development should be in the gym at this stage. I'd try to get a few different fighters, not the typical guy that just defends. Some that give it a go, some that defend. 6 rounders, 4 rounders are stupid.

Fight a couple of top 15's or so. Maybe for an English title but not neccessarily. 10 rounders.

Fight a couple of top 10 fighters to EARN my shot at a title. Actually earning title shots brings that credibility back to boxing. 10 rounders.

Try and fight for British title.

Defend title against whomever earns their shot, earn the Lonsdale belt.

Fight for European title.

Defend it a couple of times, maybe away from home at least once for the experience. But obviously not in a comprimising situation where I know it could be close and risk getting my fighter robbed.

Hopefully by now we're doing okay in the world rankings. I'd see where we are and try to fight a top 10 to boost my ranking. This might be need to happen again to get an eliminator.

Fight title eliminator. I would insist on this to EARN our shot and do things the right way. This is what brings back credibility.

Fight for world title.

Defend title against mandatory challenger.

Look for unifications where possible, if not defend title.

Repeat until division is cleared out.

Move up in weight and look for an eliminator to EARN a title shot.

 

I think the undercard should always be decent even if the main event is huge, also more information on prospects would breed familiarity and avoid fighters having to have 30 fights before mainstream recognition.

David haye has promoted himself extremely well.

 

All the typical things that probably wont happen, less belts, less divisons, more competitive fights. Boxing could do so much better if cards are stacked a lot more, and less embarassing jopurneyman fights.

 

I would like to put on more tournaments like the Super 6. Boxing has become more of a business than an actual sport nowadays IMO, and I think that mentality needs to be changed across the board. Not fighting someone on the basis that:

1) you don't like them and don't want to give them a payday
2) you don't feel they can sell out their own back yard and don't bring enough fans to the table
3) boxers respective promoters have personal/professional grudges against one another, therefore no fight is made

All the points above are a few of the reasons why Boxing is the way it is today, and this is just my opinion.

Like what people have said earlier - one belt per weight division and less weights would be the way to go. Maybe going back to the original 8 weight classes (correct me if I am wrong). This may stop boxers dehydrating themselves to make the lowest possible weight. I'd like to put in place measures for boxers to actually fight at a weight class nearest to their nearest natural weight, but that would be a nightmare to police as boxers will try and obtain every advantage possible over their opponents.

PPV hasn't helped whatsoever as some boxers are not even known to the general public like they were in the 80's and 90's, so a dedicated terrestrial channel would be good. Also, I'd love for Boxing to go back to the old days when the promoter worked for the boxer and not the other way round as it is nowadays. Too many promoters double up as managers nowadays.

I'd also do something at the grassroots level of Boxing as well. There's a lot of money at the top, but very little seems to trickle down to the lower levels. And also some sort of pension for professional boxers who have finished their careers.

All this would take a gang of money to sort out that's for sure :think!

 

I would get into the buisnnes of politics and get it into schools when I was at school for the last two years , years 10/11 you could choose 3 or 4 lessons to take one being GCSE P.E or whatever it is nowadays or even better get it as part of the curriculam for secondary schools for those who want to take part

 

The answer is simple.
Do away with Promotors and have one sanctioning body.
Best against the best always works.
