In the 3rd Holyfield vs. Bowe fight it looked like Bowe's corner used salts on him after he got dropped by Holyfield... they probably didn't but I remember thinking that they did for a long time. Anybody remember the break between round 6 and 7?

Back in the early 1980s, the BBC had a programme called 'Harry Carpenters great boxing moments' and i have seen this more times than i care to remember as my father still has it somewhere on a VHS tape.
Harry (r.i.p.) goes into the story of the ripped glove and actually showed a freeze frame of the tear in the glove in round 3. He also went into the myth of Ali getting 30secs to a minutes extra breathing space and said it was nonsense. The BBC timed the break at 63secs, which gave Ali 3 secs. Its all there in black and white.
No doubt Dundee aggravated the tear to seek extra secs as you can see referee Tommy Little going over to investigate, but the fact is that it didnt work. As for the knockdown, it was a cracking left hook, but bell or no bell, Ali was up at the count of 3. Was he hurt? Id like to think so but his head had cleared pretty quickly as anyone can tell by the difference in him the next round.
At the same time, make no mistake, Cooper did give him a bit of an argument. Very rarely will you see Ali complaining to the ref

I remember the programme, and I think Harry also said the glove wasn't changed. Is that correct? .

It's clearly 8-10 seconds. Look at the clip posted. So that would mean they've actually 'added' some footage in there?

This was illegal, and could have cost Ali a DQ. In addition, Dundee jumps into the ring and escorts a woozy Ali to his corner.

On film right after the fight, Dundee says there was a 3-4 minute break looking for a new glove.

I reckon Ali would have won anyhow, but the torn glove gave him a bit more breathing space.

If its clearly 8-10 seconds then that sounds fair enough. i aint gonna argue. But is it 8 or is it 10?
Im going on what Carpenter and the bbc said. Im not going to argue with Carpenter on the matter.
Either way i think we both agree that it wasnt a major significant difference to the outcome
