I'm not sure he can put the whole package together - movement, power, stamina. His movement is good, his power is good (because he's dynamic, has good movement), but it seems to cost him a lot of stamina.

I definitely warming up to him, especially after this win.

Look at it this way, he has done boxing a great service by getting the strap off of the freak show Valuev and now demolishing Ruiz.

    that deserves some credit.

Yep, I do give him credit and he has won me over somewhat.

He still has to keep that left hand ****ing higher.

I think Haye's defense is fine. He rarely got hit cleanly the other night, but when he gets pinned against the ropes or just brushed with a shot, people seem to expect him to fall down because there's whispers about his supposed glass jaw. I don't see it that way, he did a real number over Ruiz last night and that one-two in the first round was text book and beautiful. I thought it was all over then.

Yes, I think he won over quite a few skeptics with his performance but he has to continue proving himself and beat Arreola/Adamek, Solis and you know who...

I had Haye in my top10 p4p list when he was at cruser but I thought his move up to heavyweight magnified his two biggest weakness, his chin and stamina, and therefore had slotted him right out. But he looked very good against Ruiz and I think he's back in near the top10 now. I think he can beat Wlad, I don't think he can beat Vitali.

I think its Hayes balance that needs adressing. I dont think he is as bad defensively as you say, he used the shoulder roll and footwork well off the ropes and he invites the jab so he can counter with the overhand right. He is a trap setter and wants guys to open up and take advantage of the low left. See the Mac fight as an example.

I was impressed with Haye's performance last night. While Ruiz was clearly a few years past his best the manner of Haye's victory and the ease with which Haye was able to hurt him whenever he landed cleanly was a suprise.

Haye is begining to look like a serious contender at heavy now rather than a fighter who has got where he has by self promotion. But maybe I am baised I picked the KO in the 9th at 16-1 odds so am rather happy at the moment.

not really. I knew he had a great right hand and was fast. If anything he took the pressure Ruiz gave him better than I thought he would. He didn't fold, but at the same time when he was backing up against the ropes he was very vulnerable. I almost wanted to close my eyes when he would do that since I thought Ruiz might knock him down. Haye has to work out some defensive problems he has for him to become an elite heavyweight. He is not ready yet for the Klitchkos. He should fight the Chambers and the Toneys and get more defensive. It was a good win, but he still does not conserve energy and know when to pore it on exactly when he should. His speed is spectacular. I am not putting him down. I am saying he has to get more experience and then maybe he can be unbeatable. He is too open and has too many defensive liabilities to hang in there with a hard punching heavyweight who is good like the Klitchkos

You go ahead and watch Waldo and Vilma fight a whole bunch of bums in contests that are barely preferable to viewing paint dry. I'll take the explosive David Haye any day of the week.

I really enjoyed the fight, good to see some action in a heavyweight bout for once, but I think if he fights with his left so so against either K brother he's in for an awful lot of trouble.

Arreola, Juan Carlos Gomez, Ruslan Chagaev, Sultan Ibragimov, Eddie Chambers, Samuel Peter are all bums compared to John Ruiz?
