Me and Ninebar discussed Adam Booth after the fight. We both felt he did a brilliant job but some things can be improved
Haye often hires other trainers to help out, he's used jorge rubio a few times, i think he should keep Booth and go train with someone like Roach or eddie mustafa muhammad.
Haye's weak defense against Ruiz was down to a lack of sparring in the run up to the fight due to a cut on the eye, not poor training from Booth.
Booth's relationship with Haye goes far deeper than just trainer/ boxer. He's going nowhere, he is a massive part of what makes David Haye the boxer and marketable personality that he is. They may well use the services of other trainers in the future but I can't see Booth ever not being a big part of the Hayemaker setup. Still has a touch of the "dark side" in his tv interviews though!!
Booth is pretty good, he's a new school trainer, and seems to have an emphasis on power boxing. He seems to train Haye for maximum explosiveness. To have the ability to fire off a few bursts of concussive shots per round. There seems to be less emphasis on endurance due to the lack of long distance running for example. It's more about building explosive strength, that's why he will do a session of sprinting multiple times so that he is able to have those bursts of power in a fight. I think Booth is also a decent strategist and comes across well educated in the fight game. I think they are a good combination.
I would agree with this. Booth seems to have a certain cerebral air about him although a beard and a religious garment on his head would not go amiss. Henceforth, I shall refer to Booth as 'Brother Adam'.
Haye was blowing earlier than I expected (I wondered what the hell his sparring was like, and this was answered post-fight). Staying or leaving Booth wouldn't affect this I think, as it was just a case of lack of sparring. On the defensive side of things, Booth has already said he was disappointed with the amount of punches Haye took, so he knows this is an issue. I wouldn't be surprised to see Booth himself bring in a technical trainer especially for this. I think Haye should definitely stick with Booth.
I know. Booth deserves a thread to give him some credit for what he has achieved with Haye, not this.:nut
Haye is a very dangerous opponent for everyone in his weigh division, though he does have a few weaker areas that notably lower his chances against them. 1. He really needs to tighten up his defence; his reflexes and movement have worked for him so far, but if he cleaned up his movement and added a nice tight defence, he'd be SO much less vulnerable. The way he fights currently is putting himself at an un-necessary risk. 2. He needs to vary up his boxing. Haye is a very confident and able boxer, though he just overly rely on a narrow range of moves. However, these moves he's very good at, and uses them excellently. His lateral and upperbody movement work well, but he needs to add more to that. When he meets someone whos good at cutting off teh ring and throwing neat combos this will fail him. He is also over-reliant on his power. He carries excellent power in both hands, yet he seems incredibly eager for each shot to have a huge effect. He needs to throw punches but not commit to them fully; he should concentrate on accumulation and wearing opponents down, rather than trying to sucker them into taking his right hand. 3. His stamina appears to have improved, though it obviously affects his work-rate, or vice versa. He throws very few punches, and cause of how much he commits to them he seems to have large breaks inbetween single and double shots. Haye has fantastics power, speed and movement, so he should be a busy busy guy. He should never let opponents settle or get a rhythm - he should be firing jabs often (his jab is superb), moving and turning his opponent, landing hooks from different angles, and so forth. Currently he seems content to let people come to him and pressure him, which isnt a great idea given his chin. and as I also stated, he should really make a more ACTIVE use of his speed and power in fights. he HAS to get these bigger, more aggressive guys respect, he HAS to stop them coming at him and throwing bombs at him. To do this he's GOT to fight forwards, and land shots often.
i didn't like the way Haye was eating a few jabs from slow Ruiz.... Wlad would cut and ruin his face (pizza face as wlad says)....with his mighty long Piston Jab....I could also see Haye walking ijnto the right hand from Wlad... I just hope Haye tightens up a bit.... and when fighting the klits he takes 'em out before they get to him
I'd like to think that Haye has enough ringsmarts to bring a different gameplan into fights with either of the Klitschko brothers. For Vitali, he'd probably fight in a similar but (hopefully) more active way to the Valuev fight. Movement, speed, quick combinations would be the key. Wear the older man down, tire him out and hopefully bust him up. Much as I like Haye, I'd give him next to no chance against a prime Vitali but he's now old and on his way out soon. For Waldo, I think Haye would go in there and try to bomb him out. Provided Haye himself doesn't get sparked early, he'll mentally dominate Wladimir who could go into a shell and get KO'd fairly early. EDIT : Booth knows that neither Klitschko is getting better. Holding out for a year or 18 months will only work in Haye's favour.
Fully agree with the gameplans for Wlad and Vitali. I reckon Vitali is actually a safer fight, because against Wlad it's really a hit or miss scenario. Also another potential problem I see against Wladimir is if he finds his range and jabs away continuously then Haye WILL be broken down. It's unlikely that Haye can match his workrate so the best plan is to go for two or three bombs in every round until he's caught. Head movement will be key for both fighters.
