It is easy to shot on someone's record and spin it in a negative light but BHOP does get a little overratted at times. He has very good achievements but to be honest when ever he faced excellent fighter he is own size he mostly lose e.g prime RJJ, Calzaghe and young and hungry J.Taylor.
just for discussion sake ill give you the benefit of the doubt... but no matter how you cut it kelly pavlik was still over rated bum at that point SEE THROUGH THE BS!!!!! I'm about to make another thread to combine with this one... TARVER IS A STEP ABOVE JOURNEYMAN!!! this guy is a nobody who is irrelevant until he hits a home run against roy jones ala buster douglas style... tarver win is over rated .. not only that but once tarver beat roy he achieved his only goal in life which was to beat roy... dude probably lost his hunger... but lets not even go there.. the fact of the matter is tarvers whole career is based off getting lucky against roy jones.. atleast you had the honesty to say DECENT!... thats all they were...DECENT! yup! people need to see through the BS! everyone wants to call joe calzaghe a fraud but call bhop a hero... he is guilty of the same act his 20 defenses are super over rated... who cares... thats why everyone hates the klitskos... they prey on fighters who don't have the time to develop because the entire division is soft... which is basically what bhop did for 20 years
http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6482966#post6482966 people need to know the truth .... tarver wasn't legit.. he got a winning lottery ticket (beating roy)
haha, you're very passionate about this. look, i hate tarver as much as the next guy and agree that he's nothing to write home about. but hopkins moved up and beat the real light heavy champ. now that light heavy champ wasn't that good sure but he was all that there was. still you're right: tarver was absolutely nothing without the rjj win and he was clearly beaten in the first fight when roy was past peak
You don't get lucky twice, Tarver stopped Jones and beat him in the rematch. And if you don't like that, what about Tarver beating Glen Johnson, Reggie Johnson, Montell Griffin, and Eric Harding? Hopkins moved up in weight and dismantled him. But looking at the rest of Hopkins title reign, to say he didn't fight anyone is absurd. Howard Eastman was 40-1 when they fought and was the best European Middleweight at the time, outside of possibly Felix Sturm. Keith Holmes was 36-2 and the WBC champ when Hopkins beat him. Glen Johnson was 32-0 when they fought. Felix Trinidad showed he had power at 160 with his stoppage of Joppy, the WBA champion. William Joppy was the former WBA champion. So no he didn't fight 20 bums at Champion.
You can pick apart anyones record that way and make cases about this person being to small or that person being overrated or whatever but the fact of the matter is Hopkins record has more big name fighters under his W column than almost anyone in his era. The one thing you fail to mention is Hopkins was an underdog in most of the fights you pinpointed and was nearing 40 or over 40 years old when they took place. .
why you talk so much ****.you wish you could be one of those guys.the only bum is you .you only dream to be in the ring and have michael buffer introduce you into the ring get a life looser and stop dissin fighters or stop watching boxing you bum
tarver is bhops best win...agreed realistically though... tarver aint that great cmon man... you shitting me? roy BEAT tarver the first time.. the rematch was worthless roy got KNOCKED THE F*** OUT luckily in the rematch... roy was SCARED AS ****! the 3rd time... just wanted to survive he was also coming off being KNOCKED THE F*** OUT against glen johnson... cmon man... once again... look at glen johnsons record when they met... glen johnsons opponents averages less than a 50% winning rate..which is horendous... I haven't checked yet but I bet the same goes for the rest of those guys as well SEE THROUGH THE BS! the true measure of skill = moving up in weight & shutting people out roy floyd & pacquoiao are the true champions who have done this.... everyone else falls behine these 3 anyone can stay at 1 weight for 20 years and beat up on guys who haven't had enough time to develop.... look at the klistkos
All fighters are bums because all challengers are bums. All champs are bumps because they only managed to win decisions over guys who lost to fighters who used to work at Burger King.
As a Hopkins supporter, I have to say that some of his career was made of smoke and mirrors. His wins over Trinidad, Echols, Joppy, Johnson were legit, but some of his "biggest" wins weren't great at all. Pavlik was never that good, that obviously wasn't the real Winky Wright in the fight they had, and De La Hoya was too small for the weight as well. I did have him beating Calzaghe and Taylor in the rematch, but I felt he gave away too many rounds in the first fight with Taylor. Overall he had a good career, just not as good as some people want to believe. Hopkins hasn't been an elite fighter in at least the last 4 to 5 years in my opinion. During that time span, the match making was pretty solid. In his prime, he was great and he was still serviceable against certain opponents at the end. He and Jones should call it a career. Jones should have done this years ago.
