I already answered, but I'll write it again,
with Rooney in his corner, Tyson still gets beat down by Buster Douglas.

Well buster should have lost that fight with that dubious "8" count

Truth is, his mother's death helped Douglas get even more determined to fight his ass off vs Tyson.

Poor fragile Mickey gets shouted at and can no longer perform at the age of 23. Douglas' mother dies and it turns him into superman.

    How convenient.

I don't have beef with Mike. Hell, he would probably be embarrassed by his E-Social workers.

    Superman? Nah.

But it DID get him more determined. This is true not because of the block capitals, but because Douglas himself said so.

    Unless he's lying too.

How do you know that? Because it was a good story and it seemed to fit?

Can't be that Douglas said it, because then we would have to accept everything fighters say.

    Including Mike.

Losses happen but some fans always have to look for a meaning or pattern. Most of the BS is just made up as they go along.

Douglas said how he felt going into the fight after his mother died, and I am supposed to not accept it? :huh

Douglas said: 'I was more determined. I think that helped the intensity even more'.

Tyson said: 'Whatever went wrong, it's because of me. You can have the best cornerman in the world but if you can't fight, it's useless'.

    I believe them both.

If you think it's just BS, it's your right.

"Whatever went wrong, its because of me." - Mike Tyson on the Douglas fight.

I agree with Mike. Nothing to do with his corner or Rooney.

Tyson's fans forget that Mike isn't the only fighter with problems. Do you think Lewis never had endless woman problems before he got KOED by Rahman?

I think it still would have been a tough fight for Mike, but it would have ended differently. Tyson losing seemed to come more from his being lethargic than what Buster was doing....

...however, an argument can be made that Buster just had Tyson's number, and the result would have been the same, but I beg to differ. Just my opinion.

Yeah it was because of him, lol . He didn't train. He didn't take Douglas seriously. His fault. That has no correlation to the actual question which was: What would have happened if Tyson was at his best physical and mental shape (which he clearly wasn't). Not to take anything away from Douglas, who fought a masterful fight, but that's just kind of a fact.

You also seem to be insinuating that Douglas wasn't great that night, when if you look at his prior history, he was known as a quitter who came in to fights out of shape, yet for that one night he looked absolutely fantastic and never looked as good again. If his mom dieing had nothing to do with it, it must of been something that sparked the motivation.

Douglas was the man that night. even with tyson's constant head movement and his fast hands etc I don't think he would be able to cope with buster that night. as many of you know his mother died that night and he certainly looked amazing that night. he wasn't afraid of Tyson either: that's what made it interesting. I just think that Douglas would eventually beat Tyson the same way, it was meant to happen. even when Tyson is 100% functional, on focus, and with the right trainer, he still lacks enormous courage and heart. he will always lack mental strength, it makes me think that a psychological fighter like Ali would defeat him before the fight even started. My dad told me everyone around him was shocked when mike got knocked the **** out. it was like when Liston got embarressed by Ali the first time.
