When you get your ass beat, naturally you lose your love for it.

Buddy MgGirt would pull Cotto out after 1 round. "You're taking too much punishment baby!"

That and it just makes you question yourself as a fighter and depresses you.

"Ya gotta pop that jab baby! Miguel! Miguel! Ya gotta do something baby or Ima stop this fight!!"

With some more discipline, Cotto probably could still be fighting at 140 right now. He has been poorly managed the last couple of years.

if this is true then it means the success made him soft.

Shiiet are you crazy?...Did you see how he looked like a starving child at the weigh in for the Malignaggi fight. But I do agree with you to a certain extent that he was poorly managed. In the 11 month period from December 2006 to November 2007, he had 4 fights and 3 of those fighters were good fighters, and he's not a defensive wizard so he got hit in all four fights. So I think he might have been fighting too much without much of a break in between. Also there would have been nothing wrong with Cotto fighting another easy fight after the Jennings fight instead of putting him in there against Clottey right away.

I think its says a lot about what's been happening to his demeanor in his most recent fights. Wraps or no Wraps, this is probably a result and/or cause of his decline. I'm glad he's making the positive changes and making the apt consideration of continuing if his heart is in it.

not just that, they put him in with zab judah and shane mosley (tough fights) and then they gave him someone super easy (gomez), and then go onto another very tough fight in margo, the easy fights gave him false confidence going into big fights.

If Steward and Cotto proves to be a great combination and Cotto beats Foreman for the title, his love for boxing will re-emerge. Winning cures whatever ails a fighter.
