I re-watched and re-scored Barrera vs Morales 1 for the 1st time in years last night

And I'm shocked by how my card ended up.

I saw this fight on live tv in 2000, and have watched it 2 or 3 times over the years since.

Each time, I remember thinking that Barrera was the close-yet-clear winner, by 3-4 points, something in that region.

Last night, my card ended up Barrera 114-113, and of course that was only because the ref's wrong decision to award a KD enforces the last round to be 10-8 MAB. I had Morales up 6-5 going into the final three minutes.

So, if the ref had made the right call and ruled the KD a slip, I'd have had either a draw or a Morales win, MAB could not have won the fight on my card. Which as I say, is pretty shocking to me because for years and years I have laboured under the misapprehension that Barrera fully deserved the victory.

For me, Barrera probably did the more quality work (aided and abetted by Morales's frankly rather **** defence - why does he go back in a straight line and stand straight up with his hands down like a streetlight waiting to be punched in the face???), but Morales outworked him in most of the rounds, his volume seeing him edge a couple of close ones.

What do you guys think? Was this a razor-thin fight that could've went either way, or was I right originally and it should have been a solid Barrera win?

(*sorry Addie mate, but this was my honest card from last night)

    1st fight, Barrera won
    2nd fight, Morales won
3rd fight, Barrera edged very closely, but a draw would have been ok.

    Thank you Popkins....

I have always scored this fight razor close & time & again people have screamed about my inability to score a Morales fight fairly because he`s my favourite fighter.

I tell them to watch it with the sound down & they tell me to stop being a fanboy & accept Barrera won clearly.

Ive seen this fight more than any other fight & to me, there is no loser, a draw IS the fairest result.

    :good

Have you watched and/or scored the 1st fight recently?

I have been one of those people in the past, so now apologize for that. My initial scoring was bogus. I had Morales 6-5 up going into the last and the KD was clearly a slip. I didn't put the sound off though, commentators talking shite doesn't put me off at all, I score what I see.

    PS: WHAT a fight!

PPS: Still waiting on your response to my last post on Nallege's thread from yesterday.

The fact is... most rds were close... few rds were won clearly by either guy.... Barrera edged a couple of those close rds by landing a spectacular combination... Morales won a couple of those close rds by simply throwing & landing more than Barrera.

Its always baffled me why anyone could think Barrera won this clearly, it really was as back & forth fight as you could get, the commentators & the fact that Erik was such a huge favourite going in doesnt help either.

I dont remember my card but i Had Barrera the clear winner in a close fight, there was some close rounds and some rounds it seemed that MAB was getting outworked but most of the punches that Morales was throwing were being blocked while almost every punch that MAB threw landed cleanly and he had Morales hurt several times during the fight.

Its quality over quantity for me,close fight but with a clear winner unfortunately the guy i thought won the fight didnt get the decision.

I dont mind if you score fights 1 & 3 for him, even tho both were razor thin but no way Morales never took 7 rds in that 2nd fight, no way, you need to re-check that ****.
