Who needs the win more: Pavlik or Martinez?

Pavlik. If he loses, his reign will be widely dismissed and he'll be forced up to 168 where he'll probably struggle for a decent fight. Martinez is facing the bigger man, has that for an excuse if he loses as well as his belts and prospects at 154 (his proper division).

 

If Pavlik wins he kind of erases the Hopkins loss (although the manner of that defeat means it may stick with him forever)
If Martinez wins it will make him the man (in a dead division)

If Pavlik loses, he becomes an overrated joke (much like Jermaine Taylor)
If Martinez loses he slips back into (relative) oblivion

IMO Pavlik needs the win more

not even close. pavlik HAS to win this. martinez can take his jmw strap back down to 154 and get a big money rematch with williams still. where will kelly be if he loses?

 

I just hope Martinez gets a fair chance this fight - The way he has been treated by referees and also judges in his last 2 fights is disgusting - Referee counting to 10 but then changing his mind because Cintron was angry is still one of the most disgusting things I have seen in a ring combine that with the judges scorecards in both fights.

To answer question Pavlik needs win more but I expect him to lose if Martinez gets a fair crack

 

This is nearly a lose/lose situation for Pavlik!!!

If he wins they will say he was suppose to beat Martinez because Martinez is WW who moved up to JMW now fighting at MW!!!

If Pavlik loses then.........do I even have to explain!!!

 

Pavlik needs this win much more than Martinez. Pavlik's stock has really fallen and a loss now will send it rock bottom. He could fight his way back up but it will be very tough if he has to move up to 168 to do it. Martinez can always go back to 154 if he loses, not to mention he's the underdog here.

 

Pavlik badly needs to win and make a huge statement to show the world who's in charge at 160. Marinez also needs the win because boxing in an unfair *****, and even if you lose at a higher weight-class, it hurts your reputation and marketability the same (think Darchinyan, Wright and Kelly after Agbeko and Hopkins). If Maravilla loses, he'll still have a title to defend but will find difficulties securing a TV date. If Pavlik loses, he loses his titles too.

 

Martinez has a built in excuse. He's not a legit middleweight.

Pavlik is in a bad situation. If he wins big, in the grand scheme of things, it is only a mediocre win. If he loses, he's probably done as a top level guy.

 

Pavlik to restart his career. If Pav loses his reign will be even more embarrassing.

Martinez can lose and go back to 154.

I think this is very telling.

 

Martinez is 35 and coming off a loss and a draw in his last two fights. Another loss would be crippling to his career.

A lot to lose for both of these guys IMO.
