I like how everyone makes it their job to discredit the boxer they don't follow/root for.

Spot on. Because we all know how "overrated" former #1 PFP fighters are...:-(

Oh but wait, this will be one of the guys saying how great of a win it is for Floyd after the fact.

Shane is a damn good fighter and a future HOFer. Even at 38, he's still a tough fight for most guys. However, because of how likeable he is, and because of his association with GBP, people have been reluctant to criticize him. Let's be real, Shane has 1 marquee, legit win since 2000; that was against Margarito. Some would say the 2nd Hoya fight, but many thought he lost and he admittedly was on PEDs in that fight.

Shane is not the fighter that he used to be. He's no pushover, but he's no longer a special talent.

the difference between shane's attempt to move up in weight vs floyd/pac is that:

shane has fought the tougher comp with no catch weights. shane fought guys when they were most dangerous, with no selectivity.

i think your logic is flawed, and like so many others who have attempted i can easily water downs floyd 6 titles as per below. I do not wish to do this but i am trying to prove a point:

when floyd moved up to 140 he fought arturo gatti, demarcus corley and henry bruseles. THREE BIG TIME BUMS. At that time, his options were zab judah, kostya zu and ricky hatton when they were hot, but he did not step in the ring with any of them at that point.

floyd then moves to 147, only fights ricky hatton after ricky got into tons of problems with collazo and juan urango. After floyd develops into a full welter he makes ricky move up in weight. ***** MOVE

floyd fights zab judah after zab looses badly to carlos baldomir and really lost to old man rafael pineda despite getting a gift. Zab had no momentum. Even i the prefight interview, they asked him, "which zab are u expecting the one who fought carlos baldomir or the one who fought cory spinks?" floyd naturally answers, the one who fought cory spinks. But we all know which zab showed up.

After, cotto annihalted zab. teh division was hot with talented big fighters. Louis collazo, berto, margarito, mosley, kermit cintron and cotto and paul williams.....all of them are way better than carlos baldomir and would beat zab judah. what does floyd do, he retires. ***** MOVE

Now if you want to not give credit to mosely for fighting DANGEROUS guys like Winky wright 2X, vernon forrest 2X (unavoided fighters, high risk low reward), vargas 2X, mayorga and louis collazo, margarito, PRIME OSCAR 2x - THEN we certianly should not give credit to floyd for his HOYA WIN. that is a padded 154 title.

WHEN floyd comes back from retirement, understandebly so as a prefight setup for PAC he fights JMM. I understand the busienss move, but WHAT THE HELL CAN WE REALLY TAKE OUT OF THIS FIGHT. it should not even count.

So basically, above 135, floyds resume is even worst than shane mosley in terms of opponent selection.

Another reason why shane mosely is respected is bc he is a throwback fighter. Guys respect the fact that he rematched fighters and granted rematches. He brings a spirit to the sport that fighters no longer have. what about his chin.

You cannot compare sam peter to shane mosley bc Shane fought EVERY CHAMPION between 147 and 154. There is no one else to fight, and its not his fault if a fighter was shot or not. HE FOUGHT THEM ALL.

    COTTO - CHAMP A-/B+ FIGHTER

LUIS COLLAZO - CHAMP B FIGHTER

    MARGARITO - CHAMP
I DONT know want to rate him an A fighter, but he was dangerous as ****)

    MAYORGA - CHAMP
ssm had a nearly 10 pound weight disadvantage, Mayorga is sloppy but is a big puncher.

    Vernon Forrest 2x CHAMP
Solid BOXER, A level skills but no accomplishments to back it up

    Winky wright 2x CHAMP
    A fighter

    Hoya, 2x
    A level fighter

    Vargas, was washed up
but mosley was much smaller than vargas, and it was at 154.

All of mosleys opponents woudl give floyd tons of risks and problems in a fight.

the thread starters points are as superficial as anything.

I understand them but they are arguments i would expect from the boxing layman. Not a person who can disect the fight game based on how fighters match up in historical perspective and relative attributes and factors in each fight that provide a basis of risk that fighter's opponent brings.

People over rate Shane because they like him. Personally, I don't think he achieved any kind of true greatness until he got that upset win over Margarito. That vaulted his status in the all-time great rankngs but previous to that his accomplishents and up and down career were not that spectacular
