yes and you were the MC craig with the same patter lol.seriously guys British and commonwealth champ 2x world champion with was it 9 defences or so nobody from scotland comes remotely close to that, give the guy the credit he deserves.
Apparently so, according to his Grandson, who obviosuly things reall highly of him. Been trying to research him myself. But do you think the quality opposition was as good as say Buchanans?
sorry disagree with you there mate, scott would have beat all of jims opponents imo athough argullo would have been tough
Well, maybe so but he never and thats the bottom line. He had some very good wins did Scott, but in my opinion they do not live up to the likes of beating Laguna twice, Ruben Navvaro etc... Although saying that I rate Harrison higher than most (excpet you). I think he was a brilliant fighter and one of the best British World champs we have had for a while. No way, Harrison was littler than all of them. a guy like Howard Davis would out box him easily and Sean O'Grady would probably stop him due to the size difference. Arguello would destroy Harrison, sorry but its true.
I'm not saying that really Billy (although I don't think Harrison would have beaten Arguello at any weight) more that (IMHO!!!) Watt winning and defending the WBC title 5 times when there was only 2 belts to choose from makes him more "successful" than Harrison winning and defending the WBO title 9 times when there were 4 belts and the WBO version was the most lightly regarded.
scott would have beat O'Grady and Davis comfortably, the americans thought william abiyan would have schooled scott by outboxing him,he was No1 contender eh kod early.honest guys scott beat juan chacon the guy Naz refused to fight alledgedly and who KO'D kiko kovacs in hungry and gave him a lesson in boxing to win the title, for me his best performance he was simply class that night.
Billy, Scott was a brilliant fighter. Love watching him box aswell. But Davis was a fantastic boxer, hell he outboxed Ramirez for long stretches of their fight. He was also a gold medallist and Val Barker trophy winner when the amatuers mattered, as well as him being naturally bigger than Scott. William Abiyan aint in that class. O'Grady was a top contender in a very tough Lightweight division and he was one of the best of that era. Tough wee ****er too boot, and again a natural lightweight. Better than Juan Chacon aswell. Scott, I'm no doubting Scott Harrison's greatness but to say he would have dealt with Lightweights from a tough era is absurb. We both know Scott was class, but be realistic. Sure he was brilliant but no Superman.
Tommy Burgoyne was one hardy fella. Unfortunately he passed away a few years back but everyone in his hometown (Dunipace) knew him well. He used to walk around the village with his shirt off built like a tank in his 60's or 70's. I met his grandson a couple of years back on the night Calzaghe fought B-Hop, he was at my place for a few beers.
daddy of them all was king kenny buchanan then scott harrison benny lynch walter mcgown jim watt. then AAA the you would consider guys of british level G jacobs stevie boyle alex dickson ricky burns john simpson kevin anderson barry morrison brian carr kevin mcintrye paul appelby
there are lenty who deserve to be mentioned ahead of Barry Morrison. He's nowhere near being a Scottish great.
thats a bit harsh Greg! he's been one of the top LWW for a long time now and one of the nicest guys you could wish to meet.
