Eubank/Benn I. How different would it have been if Benn had not been weight-drained?

Chris Eubank performed better than Nigel Benn, and prepared better.

Nigel Benn was in shape, i don't accept that Nigel Benn was 6 pounds over weight..? do you guys really beleave that ****..?

Nigel Benn hated Chris Eubank leading up to that fight, and could not see himself loosing.

Do you guys really think he would not check his weight, week in week out leading up til the fight..?

Well I'm a bit confused as to how he managed to be overweight on the day of the fight myself, as he seemed to train hard. He spent the last week before the fight training with the army!

Also have to consider Eubank's offensive timing was clearly off that night, and his defensive reflexes had visibly slowed (they were never there again after that night, either). It was the night where Eubank's long issue of weight-making had really started to effect his performance, IMO.

A totally different fighter than the one in the 1st Benn fight, where his combinations flowed, reactions were cat-like and punches pin-point. Despite Benn being a different fighter, too.

 

The morning of the Watson fight Benn was 6lb over.

Yes that's right. In fact his whole career was blighted by the number 6, right up until he retired at the end of round 6 against Steve Collins - a fight in 199..6 that led him into retirement. He'd lost to Collins earlier that year on July 6 and although Eubank stopped Benn in 9 it is of course a 6 upside down. He still did pretty well considering the curse he was up against.

 

It is often said that if the number 6 didn't exist and thus Benn wasn't cursed, he would have retired as the 6th greatest fighter of all time.

When I think about it, I can't see how Benn could've been so severely weight-drained because the weigh-in for Eubank-Benn I was only about 7hrs before the fight itself, it was a Sunday evening and the weigh-in was held at 12 o'clock that day (before the rule changed a year later)... and Nigel surely would've been nearly dead in the ring and not as dense as he looked??
