Pavlik is widely considered to be one of the best wins on Bernard's resume. Kelly just got schooled by a natural 154lb fighter at his optimum weight class.

    Thoughts?

    No.
    1. Hopkins laid the blueprint. Movement, punching in-and-out, lead straights, etc.
    2. Hopkins demoralized Pavlik. Pavlik could never be the same mentally. You heard him doubt himself after just a few rounds.

Nope. Hopkins was 43 years old when he fought Pavlik. That's a damn accomplishment within itself.

It took a major hit, And people who still think Hopkins can beat Bute at this stage of his career needs a BIG reality check

Hopkins was 43 years old and Pavlik was an undefeated God who was going to kill Calzaghe.

Most 43 year olds are fat and sitting in an office all day.

In my opinion, Pavlik was never one of Hopkins best wins and I don't think Pavlik was ever that good. He built his name on an HBO invented fighter in Jermain Taylor and Taylor built his name off of questionable decisions. Plus, I don't think this is the same Pavlik anyway.

With all the crap about draining fighters always being spouted out, I would like to remind people that BHop had to cut 5 lbs at 43 for that fight.

Hopkins had a legacy even before the Pavlik fight.

Even looking back, I still think it was a great win for Hopkins though. Pitched a shut out against an unbeaten champion and against the odds.

Not sure why it would. At 43 Hopkins absolutely dominated Kelly Pavlik, a man hyped to usher in a new era. He was magnificent in that fight. Sergio Martinez is a damn fine fighter in his own right. Perhaps we should be celebrating Martinez' effort instead of saying Kelly sucks? The 2 fights have nothing to do with one another.

Nah. Without the Hopkins experience I doubt Pavlik would have unraveled as much as he did. Loew had to play psychologist all night long. The Hopkins fight ruined Pavlik if anything.

How could a legacy be weakened by a humiliating shutout win, even if the opponent wasn't great?
