against frietas he traded with popo till "he" thought he was winning on the score cards and just stayed away then came back later to solidify his claim. he wasnt knocked down he was jabbing to his right and frietas hit him on the shoulder which made him lose balance and fall over.

i think he won quite convincingly though close i think to myself did acelino earn it and i think not joel should of won.

against castillo he jabbed and moved all day long not ONE punch from castillo landed cleanly joel did everything to win and totally won the rounds not a domintating performances but he won it he outworked and out hustled jose and should of got the win there.

robberies is a bit harsh but i dont know what the judges were thinking.

and the kid diamond thingatsch he clearly landed more and landed the harder punches. against a workhouse. the only way your going to win is throw the cleaner faster harder shots which he did a draw is just silly.


against corrales II i can see corrales winning but far from a clean win casa did his jab and move styly then started to land more then boom he drops diego and goes into that killer mode he was like against lamont paerson where he knows he can finish his man and just starts to punch more and more.

anywayz he starts to hunt more and corrales got the better of in the exchanges and won the later rounds.


why joel is rated so highly is becuase he is almost impossible to beat convincingly

 

casamayor is a classsic example why there should be a further distinction between being an A-level boxer as opposed to an elite fighter.

about him being a bantam he was a big guy for a bantam and was very good and moved up in wieght to fight at super bantam in atlanta but was put into a replacment sub. which i think made him totally go over the edge from before.

he had been treated really bad by the cubes and was totally ready to leave but trained for the olympics and boom he was put as a replacement...it was his only way out and he took it.

it was an odd managment team one was a trainer the other was banker...the trainer left them and was now put with goosen who as good as he was didnt speak spanish or know his fighter.

the problem with cuban fighters is that they never get a good trainer becuase they are used to be trained by cuban masters and they know there man becuase they grew into boxing. rarely do U.S trainers work well with cubes fighters becuase it's a pure amatuer (meaning olympic) fighter he is working with.

 

Guzman is not a name yet when Pac separate himself from the Pack. It's up to to Guzman to challenge the Alpha Male Pac. Pac become The Alpha male when he beat MAB. JMM Failed to take the role & run away & stay away from The Alpha male Pac. EM tried to retake the role & successfully retake but eventually beaten violently by Pac. So who separates himself from the Pack??? I'm sure It's not JMM or Guzman.

 

The CASA that lost to FREITAS was close to his prime. The fight could have gone either way. The casa that lose to corrales and castillo was past it Also those fights were REALLY close as well. He is elite level to me. The man had 300+ amateur fights.

 

I saw the fight. I have it on DVD. It's a close fight. Fight was stopped by the Doctor & Chico was still willing to continue & very upset of the stoppage. It's not a Domination like the PBF-Chico. To make it short Casa needs some Dominating Performance against elite competition to be called Great. If he Beat Juan Diaz Clearly, I'll consider him Great.

 

If PAC wants to be considered EL ALPHA PERRO he needs to step up his game and fight YOUNG & PRIME CHAMPS, ie GUZMAN, VALERO...BTW, SOTO is coming too, WATCH OUT!!!!!

 

OK, question...PBF/CASTILLO 1 vs CASA/CASTILLO??? Casamayor looked like the elite fighter there. He even looked better than Floyd in his repeat with Castillo. Joel is elite. Pac is too. Juan Diaz would kick both of their arses. Well, maybe not Casa.

 

If you don't consider him good or great then that says more about your (boxing) knowledge then about el cepillo

 

I consider him an elite lightweight, but I rate Juan Diaz ahead of him now.

 

Dont judge him on resume, he has got on the wrong end of so many big fights, he shoulda won Freitas on decision (close fight tho), not sure bout Castillo, but again, very close fight, and beat Corrales twice, lost very narrowly. In simple terms he has never been clearly beaten. Great fighter IMHO

 

Wether he would beat Juan Diaz or not, he is the champ.

The fight was close, but Popó deserved the victory. I know Freitas isn't popular in the U.S because he quit against Corrales, but he deserves a fair treatment.

Sums it up pretty well. The guy has been fighting top level fighters for seven years, and he fought about everyone in his division. And he was competive with anybody.
