Link doesn't work. I've always thought that the reason why these kind of stories come out is so the fighter can have an excuse if they lose. If you are injured and can still fight would you want your opponent to know your injured ?
Didn't mention anything about a Hand injury on the livefeed this evening on TV:huh I doubt it very much......
That was my first thought too, built in excuse. "I'm not blaming the hand injury, but if my hand wasnt injured, I woulda won"
I doubt the 100% truth in it. Its often like this - ie football - "XX is injured, and his participation in the upcoming blah blah is in jeopardy" - only to see him play with no difficulty. I rate this as speculation. Maybe Kessler hasn't sparred in the last two weeks, but I think he is just restoring his body from the hard training so the speed will be optimum - coupled with the fact that risking injuries now would be very stupid to say the least.
Alternatively it's a psychological ploy to try and gain some small advantage and why not, because Kessler's going to need every straw to clutch he can get his (injured) hands on.
I'm wondering if ANY fighter goes into a fight 100%.People running on treadmills and lifting weights in gyms are injured all the time.Imagine what aches and pains boxers go through to get ready for big fights.Road running, sparring, hitting heavy bags, and geting pounded by 16 pound medicine balls are traumatic experiences.Winning fighters always seem to forget about their injuries while the losers have them ready when excuse time comes along.
Kessler has had hand injuries before, he has titanium in his hands because of it. So it wouldn't be surprising if he has had problems in sparring, but the fight is still on so one would assume that it isn't too much of a problem. Besides Kessler fought with a broken/fractured rib against Beyer and had problems with his back against Mundine, so it won't be the first time he fights at less than 100 %
Joe Calzaghe is in great shape when ever he fights - makes you wonder what he could have acheived with good hands.
