Is Michalczewski the biggest name not on Roy Jones resume?

You clearly know nothing about DM and the belts he lost over BS. He got stripped of the WBA for OWNING the WBO. The IBF belt was also in chaos with contenders needing title shots.

DM did nothing wrong.

 

I always said had he taken 1 more HW fight, won, and retired 50-1, he'd be on top of the world.

Sadly he went the wrong path. He could have EASILY beaten guys like Holy, Rahman, Joe Mesi, etc, at the time.

 

Roy beat Virgil Hill who was the best light heavyweight from 85-95. That is good enough.

 

Roy did Michalczewski a favor by not killing him.

This is a guy who went over a decade and hit the canvas only once in a fight he won convincingly against Duvalle.

He fought Tarver when he didn't have to. He could have stayed at HW and nobody would have blamed him if he decided to fight Chris Byrd. He fought and beat Tarver and the 11th round was one of the bravest I've ever seen of Jones. He has heart. He didn't quit against Calzaghe despite his deep cut, he stuck it out.....I mean if you don't like the guy fine- but at some point you gotta draw the line and be fair.

 

good post. rico takes it far sometimes but typically he does bring up valuable points (whether or not he's horribly biased). The DM situation is kind of silly; i don't think people really feel Roy ducked him, nor that he was the man at light heavy. but he was one of the few glaring omissions on his resumes. as noted earlier by keith, benn was another name but when people try to come up with lists of people roy should have fought, it's usually pretty bare. out of this small list, DM stands as likely the most legit save for lewis at heavy which no one really sweats him not taking

 

Very good point. Michalczewski is definately the fighter Jones missed out on meeting and vise versa.
I read an article once that said The Ring belt was stopped at some point and brought back years later and given to R Jones without him having to fight for it, but the article said that on the, you have to beat the man to be the man basis, that if you follow the LHW history from when the belt was removed to when it reappeared D Michalczewski should have been the one awarded that belt.
They were 2 dominant LHW champs that never met, also DM won the WBO CW title as well his 23 WBO LHW title defences.
When you look at the post I copied I guess you could say that they are both to blame for the fight not happening and its a void on both their resumes.
They were both in the same division. Calzaghe was a SMW and by the time Jones fought at HW, Calzaghe still hadnt fought B Mitchell at this time. The HWs Jones fought were naturally much bigger men outside of Jones own natural weight and Ruiz was a one off fight, which Jones stated before the fight. Hopkins even though started as a LHW was boiling down to MW and had no intention of meeting Jones. If he did he wouldnt have asked for a 50/50 split when Jones was a bigger draw and if anyone doubts that, ask why now when they fought all these years later and Hopkins was the guy in the bargaining did he accept a 50/50 split with 60/40 for the winner if there is a KO. That says it all.
