Who would win this tournament fought under the same format as the Super-middle one going on now. Joe Louis,Rocky Marciano,Muhammad Ali,Larry Holmes,Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. Prime versions.

Ali for me. I've always said the only one i would think might beat him would be Marciano, and i'm put off by that (only) because of the size difference.

    Ali for me anyway.

Ali. Though I do beleive Lewis poses problems for every heavy weight Champ.

Surely, these things depend massively on who faces who in what order. I'm not sure there's one person I would pick to beat everyone else.

Probably Louis or Ali depending upon the draw...But no way do Tyson and Lewis belong in the super 6!

I absolutely think Tyson belongs. Lennox, ehhh..

OK, I gave this some thought today and wound up making it the "Super 5", and took out Larry Holmes because he is the fighter I'm least familiar with and couldn't fairly judge his performance.

Here is how I have it. I'm sure many will disagree... The finals being Ali and Tyson, with Ali completely frustrating and ruining Mike's confidence, and the ref stopping waving it off with Mike covering up on the ropes and Ali flurrying like wild.

A lot of the fights could go either way, IMO. Marciano vs. Tyson would be a beast. Joe Louis vs. Ali would be a beast also.

    Joe Louis
KO by Rocky Marciano - I can't see Louis hurting Rocky.
2 -SD over Muhammad Ali - Two smart fighters, fighting outside, adapting.
KO by Mike Tyson - Louis can't win these exchanges, has been dropped by less powerful punchers.
3 -TKO over Lennox Lewis - Loius is too crafty for the one dimensional Lennox.
    Total pts: 5

    Rocky Marciano
3 - KO over Joe Louis - I can't see Louis hurting Rocky.
SD to Muhammad Ali - Ali could find an answer to the pressure, and can take all Rocky can dish.
KO by Mike Tyson - Rocky can't trade and win these exchanges.
3 - KO over Lennox Lewis - Rocky gets in close, crowds Lennox, Lennox on the mat.
    Total pts: 6

    Muhammad Ali
SD to Joe Louis - Could go either way, but I can see Louis figuring out Ali and scraping by on Pts.
2 -SD over Rocky Marciano - Ali could find an answer to the pressure, and can take all Rocky can dish.
3 -TKO Mike Tyson - Ali would frustrate Tyson and ruin his confidence. End of story for Mike.
2 - UD over Lennox Lewis - No way Lennox can move with and elude counters and flurries from Ali.
    Total pts: 7

    Mike Tyson
3 - KO over Joe Louis - Louis can't win these exchanges, has been dropped by less powerful punchers.
3 - KO over Rocky Marciano - Rocky can't trade and win these exchanges.
TKO by Muhammad Ali - Ali would frustrate Tyson and ruin his confidence. End of story for Mike.
3 - KO over Lennox Lewis - Mike had the speed & agility to close the gap, unleash combos on Lewis, who has been dropped by weaker men.
    Total pts: 9

Lennox Lewis - See above. A better choice to replace Lewis would have been Foreman.
    TKO by Joe Louis
    KO by Rocky Marciano
    UD to Muhammad Ali
    KO by Mike Tyson
    Total pts: 0

    Ali-Holmes = Ali by a 12 round decision (1 pt)
    Tyson-Lewis = Lewis by a late round TKO (2pt)
    Marciano-Frazier = Frazier by a close 12 round decision (1 pt)

    Holmes-Lewis = Holmes by a close 12 round decision (1 pt)
    Tyson-Frazier = Tyson by early KO (2pt)
    Marciano-Ali = Marciano by a controversial 12 round decision (1pt)

    Tyson-Ali = Ali by a close but clear 12 round decision (1pt)
    Frazier-Lewis = Lewis by a decision (1pt)
    Marciano-Holmes = Marciano by late TKO (2pt)

    Lewis 3pt
    Marciano 3pt
    Ali 2 pt
    Tyson 2pt
    Holmes 1pt
    Frazier 1pt

Frazier & Holmes dropped out of tournament.

Marciano vs Tyson = Marciano dropped early, rallies to TKO a tiring Tyson
Ali vs Lewis = Ali outpoints Lewis with his speed in a close 115-113 type of fight

Ali vs Marciano II = Ali comes in with a different strategy, using his feet more and clinching when necessary. He manages to outpoint Marciano in a clear but competitive decision where Marciano manages to hurt Ali in 4 of the rounds. Marciano complains of Ali's constant holding but to no effect as Ali is crowned the king of all heavyweights.

Okay, these were all random picks that I made up but you never know with a tournament like this.

EDIT: I realized I just replaced Louis with Frazier...

The winner might be the person who took the least punishment, even if they lost a key fight.

That is what I am thinking also. Therefore I think either Ali or Holmes would win it.

I have no problem with Lewis or Tyson being in the Super 6 and Frazier or Foreman not.

Bute is not in the Super 6 either is he...

I think Tyson would do either something stupid, choke, or get knocked out over the full course of the tournament. Something will go majorly wrong for him. And I wonder how he will deal with a loss.

I think he would play the role of Arthur Abraham in the tournament. The man that can knock anybody out, everybody kind of fears to fight, but can't put up a good performance all over the tournament. Therefore I think Tyson would not win it.

Marciano could take a lot of punishment. And go on to win the fight. But I wonder if he could do that over such a relative short timespan fighting cumulative superior opposition. Especially vs Ali, and, Holmes, and Lewis, he would have to eat a lot of leather. Also would have to trade with Tyson. And was a small heavyweight champion from an era of smaller heavyweights. I don't see him win the tournament.

Louis would have his moments in the tournament. At least once, he will connect with that big right hand somewhere in the tournament (Lennox Lewis). But overall he was a champion that was bigger then average for his time. Ali, Holmes, and Lewis will outweigh him. In the end he will be just to light to win the tournament I think.

Lennox Lewis will be hard for any of the others to beat when he is on his game. But changes are somewhere along the line he will let his concentration slip and get knocked out. Over 5 - 7 fights this could be his downfall. So I won't bet on Lewis.

So then only Holmes and Ali are left. Holmes and Ali could do it all. Holmes skillwise overall maybe even slightly better then Ali. But Ali could take a hell of a shot and recover from it. Also did he fight a big number of ATG oposition. And was a strategic and tactical master. So my choice to win the Super 6 would be Ali.

I think Louis wins but it depends on the draw...Ali or Marciano would not be a surprise, I dont see Holmes or Lewis getting to the end, especially if they have to face right-hand puncher Louis or Marciano...Tyson finds a way to lose at this level...Lewis could provide an upset in a fight but would have to adjust a lot.

    This is ****ing ludicrous.

  14. I actually think Lewis would win overall - maybe susceptible to a KO, but I think that with no room for complacency against this level of opponent, we'd see the best of the guy - and he has the tools to unlock all of these fighters..

I was trying to be even handed across the eras. Only Ali,Louis and Holmes would be in my top 5 list of heavyweights.
